Introducing a blogger friend of ours, who is also the phenominal crafter and stylist over at Diva Do's & Everything in Between!!! Meet Tiffany :)

Hello,
Bio: My name is Tiffany I am a wife and mother of two kids (boy, girl), my hair type is a mix between 3b and 3c I would say but I don't really know I think there is some 2c mixed in too those charts are hard to , I am creole and black. My dad is creole (a mix of Black, French, Indian) for those who don't know his family is from Lousiana and my mom is black.
Here is her Curly Wash and Go Style

How and when you got started styling hair
I took over the reigns of styling my hair once I turned 14 and hit high school. Maybe I was a late bloomer ha! but my mom still did my hair through middle school, simple styles, like one ponytail or a bun or something. Although I just began to recently take an interest in making sure I am using the right method's and right products for my hair type

Here are her results from a Twist Out

Top view of Twist Out

Hair care routine
This is ever changing but for now I wash my hair once a week usually on Saturdays using Curl's Shampoo and Conditioner (this will be changing very soon though) I do co-washes about 2 times a week using my VO5 Moisture Milks Peach Smoothie Conditioner with some EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) mixed in. I detangle my hair while wet in the shower using a wide tooth comb, I wash and condition my hair in four sections, then I wrap each section into a ball with a ponytail holder and squeeze out the excess water, I don't use a towel at all anymore. I found that the towel caused frizzing and dried my hair out too much. I clarify my hair once a month with Eluence Volumizing Clarifying Shampoo and follow with a Deep Conditioner that I leave in my hair for 30 min with a plastic cap on. I usually style my hair in braid outs, twist outs, buns, or ponytails with the curls hanging free :) I use Eco Style Gel, Lock & Twist Gel (for twist outs and braid outs) Darcy's Botanicals Organic Coconut Hibiscus Conditioning Oil and I am still searching for a moisturizer.

Likes/dislikes regarding hair/products/accessories

I don't use any hair accessories except bobby pins, Goodies Ouchless ponytail holders with no metal, but even then I find where those connect they still can snag my hair so I have to be careful, banana clips are my fav hair accessory!

Favorite family activities/hobbies/interests

My interests include reading, crocheting, making hair accessories, scrap booking, making crafts, watching my son play basketball and my daughter dance, and spending quality time with my hubby!

Today's Curlee Style: Mothers Day Style Plus Diva R got a New Accessory!

Today in honor of me i decided to do a Simple and Quick style on Diva R for church this morning. Her hair was Shampooed, Conditioned and Moisturized last night. I did that last night so that i wouldn't have lots to do on top of our already jammed day today as far as hair was concerned. I have had a set of Sidewinder's laying here that i have wanted to use in her hair for a few days now. I mixed up some colors together and decided that today would be the day to use them :)

So here is our Simple and Quick Ponytail with hanging individual braids that are of medium size thickness. Nothing special about this doo, but i love pony tails on Diva R because her little baby hairs help to accentuate the style regardless of how i spice it up making it always adorable :)

Product wise, i used the Mixed Chicks Leave In as her morning conditioner and followed it up with the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz for her moisturizer and for the hold i used Bee Mine Curly Butter as i slicked her hair back and as i braided.

I made sure to use the small pony beads at the end of each braid so that the sidewinders stay on and the ends blend very well with the smaller PB's too.

Pink has been established as her FAV color so we went with the pink theme so that we could use the Princess Pink Sidewinder Hair Holders. Also incorporating the white, clear and black :)

The best thing about this style is that it took 10 minutes tops! and its super cute and girly just like Diva R likes with her BLING *_*

Click here for our past review and posts on the Sidewinders.

Also Diva R had received her new accessory in the mail the other day, this isn't just ANY accessory though.

This is her Medic Alert Bracelet (Sportsband Style). We decided it was time to get the Diva a Medic Alert bracelet because she is in school now and she plays sports so there are times where she isn't right with us and with her allergies and asthma being a huge factor of her life it can be threatening at any moment. Its sad to say but teachers and other misc people don't have the knowledge to act quickly and know exactly what to do if she starts having an attack or allergy. This bracelet is a serious God send and i always thought these were expensive and not possible because insurance WILL NOT cover them, even though these are life saving no insurance will pay for it. So i was at the local library and seen a brochure for a free Medic Alert bracelet, so when i checked into it it was FREE i just had to pay membership for the Kids program and 34.95 including shipping later Diva R got her very own personalized MA bracelet with her choice of Band :) At this point cost wasn't an issue anyways because this was absolutely necessary. I showed her all of the bands and out of all of them she wanted the Soccer Ball one. Of course she got what she wanted *_*

This is incredible and its a must for all children especially with any type of conditions! We will be getting Z one also :)

Hope you enjoyed our Mother's Day Style :)
God Bless.

UPDATE on the My True Nature Baby Shampoo/Body Wash & Bubble Bath Review

Back a bit ago we had won the My True Nature dual set of Baby Shamp/Body Wash and Bubble Bath from Curly Hairdo Ideas My True Nature Giveaway :).

So we also reviewed them :)

The update is to just announce that the Shampoo/Body Wash has officially been used up!! We began this review in March 2011 and as of May 3rd 2011 it is all gone :) Between the regular use with two kids being both an alternative body wash and a regular shampoo no wonder it is gone :) and we will miss it... Our review didn't change over time it stayed the same and the fresh incredibly heavenly scent will stay fresh in my nose.

The 2nd update is to say that as of May 4th 2011 the Bubble Bath was devoured as well :) This BB will be missed as well, the scrumptious scent of it was captivating as well and it was a decent bubble bath through and through.

The fact that these are natural products with certified organic ingredients made it a pleasurable experience with them and for future tense i would definitely buy the shampoo for my son Z and the lotion when it comes out :)

These were both 4oz bottles so i imagine if i were to get the 8 oz size the lasting time would be more than doubled because i lean more towards using different products between my son and daughter some times because of their different skin and hair textures and these ones could be used for both safely.

The last time of the 4oz bottles has been nearly 2 months YAY!

God Bless.

Our Review

I must begin by saying that this product has been in our household ever since Diva R was 1 1/2... and in the beginning of time i was searching for something that would define her super cute baby curls. I found this at the local beauty supply store and out of all the dozens of products i picked up and read this one ended up being one of a few i got that day. I didn't know anything about ingredients or anything hair related specifically quite yet :) The curl activator lasted until Diva R was 3 1/2 (two bottles through the course of that time). The scent of this product was definitely not good or scented by any nature which was kind of a draw back from the beginning because i have scent preferences *_*. But i moved passed that because of the definition claim and the recommendations that i got to try this back in the day. The texture wasn't a yucky grease or oil texture to the worst extreme in my opinion it was runny but i could believe from the texture that it may just make her curls POP. As she was a toddler this worked TOO WELL on her hair because her already short puffy curly hair that just wouldn't grow for anything really got short and curlee when i applied this activator. This was a good thing because of the nice definition and feel that it left to her hair BUT since her hair was so short at that time her curls shrunk making her hair look boyish :0... I then put the activator up for a bit until her hair grew a few more inches. When she was 2 1/2 her hair was long enough for this to benefit her curlee's more so out it came from hibernation. I would wash her hair with her baby shampoo and a rinse out baby conditioner and then the activator just on her mid-ends. I mainly used this as a wash condition and go product because it is not suitable for being a gel or a holding product so when ever i had her hair freely hanging or in pony tails i would put about an amount just a smidge smaller than a quarter in my palms and finger comb it in. By 3 1/2 her curls loved this activator it really did highlight and define them it didn't leave a gunky residue, nor was any more than 1 application per day needed. Didn't ever leave stains on anything, and kept frizzies away. A little went a long way in Diva R's thin hair.

I may be slightly exaggerating the scent of the product so i will say to each her/his own when it comes to scents :)

I can say for quite some time i really liked this product but then i found some others that were just beyond amazing and it kind of just sat in the closet as a JIC product (Just In Case-for those of you who don't know ) for a short time before i gifted it to someone else :)

The underlined ingredients above are some of the high hazard rated ingredients that I've seen on EWG.

I know know alot more than i did way back when about hair and products so i would not re buy this product again. Just not for us :)

Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner

By popular request we decided that we would review Mixed Chicks line and we were definitely receptive to this because of all of the reviews i have read about its amazing curl defining abilities so lets see if we can get some major curl definition!.

I was aiming for the Deep Conditioner but the only store in my whole vicinity was sold out of only that one! So i picked up each and every bottle of the Mixed Chicks line that the beauty supply sold and read all of the ingredients thoroughly and right off bat we opted for the Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner because it had no ingredients in it hat Diva R would be allergic to! This was a blessing because nearly every product has at least one ingredient that is a no-no for Diva R.

Note to self: When purchasing Mixed Chicks it is CHEAPER to do so through them directly... This 10oz bottle costed me 19.99 and Mixed Chicks sells it direct for 16.99...
Scent: Like a baby powder-rose-shea butter scent

Consistency: Like a Hair Lotion/Regular Conditioner

Color: Yellow

Texture: Light, non oily, non greasy and it leaves a soft after feel... a mixture between a lotion and a conditioner

Our Review:

We have had this for nearly a month now and have used it consistently on Diva R's hair since we got it. I started using this as a rinse out conditioner at first because for some reason i got tied up in the ingredients on the back and me just plain not reading the Leave In part on the front LOL. So the first set of pictures are of the MC Leave In conditioner being used as a rinse out.

This is totally the opposite result i expected to get seeing that i wasn't using it properly the first two times around. Which was a great surprise because her curls seriously got this jolt of energy and popped out into their little perfect ringlets with no finger curling!! You can see for yourself the definition. I'm all for the lovely results that occurred accidentally, this only concludes that this is a versatile product which incorporates it being able to be used as more than just a leave in.

Now lets move on to what it looked like after i began using it properly!

This is what her hair looked like after i used our regular shampoo and this Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner following. The results speak for them selves and this above collage was taken on the third week into using the leave in regularly. I can say my preferred timing of using this is right when she gets out of the tub and her hair gets slightly dried but not much. It is easy to work through her curlee's without her hair being dry and tangled.

I applied the conditioner while i finger detangled her hair and it just sunk right in. The scent is light and refreshing. Diva R liked this product and noticed that it was something out of the norm when i put in in for the first time. She said "Mommy i really like this one you put in my hair!". Now she goes around singing "Mixed Chick's, I'm a Mixed Chick!" LOL May have to get her a Mixed Chicks Shirt :)

I use about a quarter size amount of the leave in per use and it covers the whole area i choose to use the leave in on. Now everyone knows by now that I suffer from Productjunkieism so we definitely have a past with many leave in conditioners so i feel i can speak from great knowledge :). I have tried many brands and so when i discovered this leave in, regardless of some of its ingredients i decided it was worth a shot. I bought this hand in hand with the Mixed Gloss and Shining Hair Silk

The collage below illustrates Diva R's hair before MC Leave In (on the left), and Diva R's hair with the Mixed Chicks Leave In AND Hair Silk (on the right).
Notice how dry her hair LOOKS on the left... This is her hair only shampoo'd nothing further. BEFORE the Mixed Chicks Leave In. I must say aside from commenting on the effects of the hair Silk at this time, the Leave in sure did make her curls POP! You can see her lovely S shaped ringlet curlee's.
The picture on the right i will detail more at a later time :)

I must say that the only draw back on this product coming from my own personal opinion are a few of the ingredients listed. I am a seasoned PJ and i generally follow the hazard ratings of all ingredients so i can try and keep a healthy array of products on hand for our family :)

From the very first trial period days of using this leave in i could see an immediate bounce when it was used. Current times still indicate this leave in as being effective and has since been added to our regime :) We now have a conditioner for Diva R.

We use this both on her wet and dry hair and use a wide tooth comb along side finger combing tousle and shes ready to go :) It makes a lovely conditioner for naturally flowing free curlee's.. I noticed Diva R's hair was well tamed through a long day of playing after we began using this.

Thank you Mixed Chicks for creating this unique line for us to review and for this we have a new addition into our hair care routine for Diva R :) Anxious to try the children's line for her next *_*

Today's Curlee Style: PINK and Curlee, Plus a New Addition to Diva's Gear

PINK is all i have to say about this post :)

So lately i have been on a simple and quick binge and due to our busy play date schedule, appointments, errands and helping people out aside from my being a SAHM and Wife, i didn't really have much time for elaborate styles.

So as usual her hair was washed with our BM Shamp and followed up by BOTH of our 2 new unveiled products.

I am seriously in LOVE with the product that aided in making Diva R's finger curls so shiny and fly away free!! This is a God send, pricey but a God send :)

No need for me to break down how i did this style but just for kicks, i simply parted a slanted part that sort of looked like a pacman mouth opening to the right but it was winder of course and one side turned out a little thicker than the other but this is what i was looking for so it turned out just adorable and cute it totally matched her PINK personality. Did i forget to mention that Diva R just LOVES PINK? If not it should be obvious *_* So this week she choose to wear all PINK and everything had to coordinate.

I chose to put the two sections into pig tails and i added a pony to each one and topped them off with
I <3 Jesus clips that i got from my FAV local beauty supply. Normally i don't use these types of clips to just slip INTO her hair but these ones are perfect for doing just that :) So i added them to the top bases of the pony tails and it was looking beyond girly and PINKALICIOUS i knew Diva R would LOVE it :)

I just slicked her baby hairs down with the Curly Butter and WOW and i impressed as to how they stayed down and no more of them broke free from the pig tails YAY!

So i then i opted for a new experiment and decided to use our NEW product responsible for this awesome shine and fly away removal to finger curl her curlees and see what happens...

You be the judge... Don't these look AMAZING??? Her curls are just bouncing with joy, health and are the shining recipe for luscious with a hint of a drenching spring waterfall :)

This style took 15 minutes tops and is one that i will definitely repeat, this was done before school and was thought of to compliment her cute and stylish dressy outfit and of course to go hand in hand with her girly love of PINK.
So the other day Diva R was outside playing with her new neighbor friends and we have all type of the sweetest toys BUT we didn't get her a bike yet and her friends of course had bikes and they always rode them while she trotted along on her Dora Trike. I said Its time for an upgrade and i called all around for the bike i knew was the ONE. Only one store had it!!! So i FLEW to get it and it was the last one also, they sold like hot cakes.

Here is what we got Diva R and it is her very first big girl bike ever!!!
PINKALICIOUS at that!!! and it even has a baby carrier on it! I cant even illustrate the happiness and pure excitement on Diva R's face and in her step when she came down from her nap and seen the bike!! she immediately said "Wow is this for me!!!! I have my very own bike now and i love it so much its PINKALICIOUS!!!!! WOW WOW WOW and it has a baby carrier and i get to ride it with my friends!" This is so awesome mom i love it so much thank you!! and she hugged me :) YAY for Diva getting her own bike so that she can ride without tagging along and being tickled PINK with validation because she deserves it and anything goes to keep our baby girl happy and up to date.

Now my baby girl has her own bike!

I had a nice long talk with the Diva :) Diva knows that if mommy needs to step inside for a minute play time stops and she comes in with me and then playtime resumes when we go back out together.

Here is an Updated Random Mommy Hair Moment...

So i decided to showcase another famous and one of the few styles i do on my hair per requests. This will be simple and quick and its nothing special :)

I went with the braid out on my hair. My hair was Shampoo'd with the remadinder of the Organix Shea Butter Shamp that Diva R used to use before i stopped using it on her because of certain ingredients. I used the Bee Mine Bee Lovely Conditioner (which i am in the process of reviewing also) and through many experiments with the Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer i decided to use this as my "holding and heavy moisturizing agent". I applied this as i was braiding and it is a super holder and a deep moisturizer as well. It protects my already dried and color damaged hair greatly especially where i use rubberbands. This is mainly how i used it on Diva R also and it worked wonders on our ends.

So as you can see i wasnt aiming for perfection and i wasnt looking in the mirror when i did the over night braids. So i just grabbed sections of hair with my fingers and braided the individual sections as i went. This took all of 20 minutes and i rubber banded them off one by one.
Then to finish the braids i Spritzed the Juicy Spritz on them and over night they stayed.

The next early after noon i took the braids out while flipping my hair over my forehead while i was bending down and tousled my hair super close to the roots with both hands staying on my scalp the whole time. I do it this way so that im not fingering the nice crimpage out of cuteness and so i can simply break apart the sections from the braids near the root without disturbing the style :)

Here is the result :)

Obviously these are self-taken pics so bare with me :)

The pic below was taken right after i lightly spritzed some Juicy Spritz on smoothing out the fly aways...

All in all this style turned out super cute and it lasted 3 days!!!! I switched up wearing the braid out each day. The first day i wore it with a head band, the second day i wore it in a loose side pony tail and the third day i put it in a higher off to the opposite side bunched up messy cute pony with a decorative hair holder :)... I didnt think to take pics of my switch ups :0

Just a glimpse of the mommy behind the scenes *_*

Today's Curlee Style: Zig Zag Pigtails With Added Spice

Here is a simple yet cute style that we did a few days ago i figured it was time to do some pig tails with a little flair of there own. Its been a while since we have done a style like this and her hair was freshly Shampooed with our lovely Bee Mine Botanical Shamp and followed by our new mystery product :)

Here is the side view...

I finger twirled her curlees with the help of Bee Mine Curly Butter and they sprung right into place :) Out of all the butters we've tried in the past this butter has the best, lightest consistency and its so luscious and has a great light hold <3 nothing like the rest hands down and only needs to be applied once.

This is what the Curly Butter consistency looks like for those of you who haven't tried it or may be curious as to what it looks like.

Here is a break down of how i did this style :)
1. I first zig zagged the part straight down the center of Diva R's head
2. I then made 2 front pigtails on the top of her head
3. I criss crossed the left front pony tail over to the back right side and created the third pigtail
4. I then took the remaining pigtailed hair on the right side and crossed it over to the back left and formed the fourth top pigtail

So with the back i was indecisive as to what to do with it at the current time so i just put it in two pig tails and finger curled the hanging hair :) Making this Combination a 6 piggy tailed having style that was super cute.

Here are two aerial views of it...
I chose not to accessorize this one it was lovely the way it was and we were on the go :)

All in all this style took 25 min from beginning to end and lasted until that night when i took the rubber bands out. I am on this new kick of not letting her wear rubber bands to bed if i can help it. I believe this has alot to do with damaging hair so i am experimenting.

This style can be done on any hair type as long as the length permits.

Way Back Wednesday Style Reflection

This Way Back Wed Style Recap is of a slanted styled cornrow into a pony tail design :) This style was done in Dec 2010 and i was rather pleased at how it turned out :)

I just randomly started sectioning rows at an angle and decided i would put the back into a pony.

This was definitely an experimental doo and the above pictured were of the fresh style :) It took about 3 hours :/... I decided after two days to re-do the style and change up the cornrows and add a few more :) I also needed to do an accessory color change because Diva R wanted to wear pink for a few days.

SO here is the switch up :)

I am much more pleased with the style switch up results :) I found that since her hair is so thin i have to braid smaller sectioned cornrows in order for the parting and cornrows to be full and aligned neatly.

I used Jam at this time as well and it liked to try and build up on this design...GRR but nothing a little spritz water cant fix :)

The bead sizes that i have in Diva R's hair are the BGP Beads or the "Chubbies" and the Large Barrell Beads, along side of the clips, i got these from a local beauty supply :)

I am not afraid to pot my beginner pics :) I do this for a few reasons, to INSPIRE and show you that EVERYONE starts off as a beginner and has to go through some less than perfect styles repeatedly before your skills are to your liking. Its all about how YOU like your artwork and of course your Diva or Prince. It is possible for everyone to learn how to do hair.

Just have to have that drive!

Happy Styling

Are You or Someone You Know Affected by Nut and Tree Allergies...

As many of you know our Diva R is severely allergic to...

*Peanuts
*Peanut Butter
*All Nut's
*Mixed Tree's

These are popular in the hair world also, which is why i created this post. If you or a loved one have established allergic reactions or allergies to nuts of any nature or trees of any nature it is important that you HEAVILY screen the products/cosmetics that you/they come in contact with. We just found out via testing a few months ago that Diva R was allergic to Tree's on top of our found by trial and error fact that she is allergic to all kinds of nuts.

This was puzzling and very vaguely put at that, the immunologist concluded that this was going to be a two-part panel test and because of Diva being nearly 4 at the time shes way to young for the full panel so they must bunch up some of the specific categories of allergens into one skin prick per category versus doing for example the full 13 skin pricks in the mixed tree category, the did one. By this having to be done per protocol we will not be able to find out for a few years what she is specifically allergic to in the nut and tree categories, unless we find out by direct exposure.

This is a very hard thing to deal with because not only do alot of products contain tree elements as well as nut elements but our environment is TREE LOADED... All of the parks have trees by the dozens and we just cant escape them. At certain parks she has started sneezing right off bat when she steps out of the car and/or break out in a rash. So we had to narrow down the parks we visit, to ones that are more open and partially tree-less or tree-free. Even with this being done tree pollens circulate pollen consistently in the air in all directions ranging from as far as 30-100 feet meaning that even if you cut down all of the trees in your yard your neighbors trees will still taunt your allergies.

So by us noticing that some of the products we have on hand had quite a bit of tree and nut elements in i immediately though ON NO i have to get rid of these!!! Then i decided to stop the usage of them completely for a short period and then i used one product at a time and isolated it solely for a week and would do the same for the rest and i was able to determine what products and then what ingredients she reacted too. We experimented with each one of them individually so that we could determine what was upsetting Diva R's allergies so bad.

Before i detail, in case anyone is wondering what a Mixed Tree allergy consist of, here's a tid-bit i found on emedtv.com...

(Listed below are different types of trees that are tested in the allergy panels that we as children and adults receive, this is the adult panel of course because it consists of ALL of the Trees.)

Tree Mix I—allergies to Alder, Ash, Birches, Cedars, Cottonwoods, Cypresses, Elms, Firs, Hemlock, Hickories, Junipers, Maples, Mulberries, Western Oaks, Eastern Oaks, Pines, Redwood, and Spruces.

Tree Mix II— allergies to Acacia, Aspen, Bay, Elder, Eucalyptus, Fig, Flowering Apple, Flowering Cherry, Lilac, Magnolia, Mesquite, Oleander, Olive, Pepper, Privet, Sycamore, Tulip, and Willow.

What Is Tree Pollen Allergy?

Trees are the earliest pollen producers, releasing their pollen as early as January in the southern states and as late as May or June in the northern states.
Trees can aggravate your allergy symptoms, even if they are not on your property, since trees release large amounts of pollen that can be distributed miles away from the original source.

What Causes Tree Pollen Allergy?

Of the 50,000 different kinds of trees, less than 100 have been shown to cause allergies. Most allergies are specific to one type of tree or to the male cultivar of certain trees, such as:
  • Catalpa
  • Elm
  • Hickory
  • Olive
  • Pecan
  • Sycamore
  • Walnut.
The female version of these species are totally pollen-free:
  • Ash
  • Box elder
  • Cottonwood
  • Date palm
  • Maple (red)
  • Maple (silver)
  • Phoenix palm
  • Poplar
  • Willow.
Some people, however, do show cross-reactivity among trees in the alder, beech, birch, and oak family, as well as the juniper and cedar families. ALSO, some people could be allergic to just the oils of the tree, just the pollen of the tree and/or the tree in its entirety.
In case your curious about tree/nut allergies...

Trees we have to be aware of when considering Diva R's allergies locally are...

*American Elm
*Red Birch
*Red Oak
*White Ash
*Sugar Maple
*E. Cottonwood
*Black Walnut
*E. Sycamore
What is a nut/tree nut allergy?
An allergic reaction happens when someone's immune system mistakenly believes that something harmless, such as a tree nut or peanut, is actually harmful. The immune system responds by creating specific antibodies to proteins in that food. These antibodies — called immunoglobulin E (IgE) — are designed to fight off the "invading" proteins.
IgE antibodies trigger the release of certain chemicals into the body. One of these is histamine (pronounced: hiss-tuh-meen). The release of histamine can affect a person's respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, skin, and cardiovascular system, causing allergy symptoms like wheezing, stomachache, vomiting, itchy hives, and swelling.
Most reactions last less than a day and affect any of these four body systems:
  1. Skin. Skin reactions are the most common type of food allergy reactions. They can take the form of itchy, red, bumpy rashes (hives), eczema, or redness and swelling around the mouth or face.
  2. Gastrointestinal system. Symptoms can take the form of belly cramps, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  3. Respiratory system. Symptoms can range from a runny or stuffy nose, itchy, watery eyes, and sneezing to the triggering of asthma with coughing and wheezing.
  4. Cardiovascular system. A person may feel lightheaded or faint.
In really bad cases, tree nut and peanut allergies can cause a condition called anaphylaxis (pronounced: ah-nuh-fuh-lak-sus). Anaphylaxissomeone's airways swell and blood pressure drop. As a result, the person may have trouble breathing and could lose consciousness.
Peanut reactions can be very severe, even if a person isn't exposed to much peanut protein. Experts think this might be because the immune system recognizes peanut proteins more easily than other food proteins.
(Listed below is a list of the nuts that are incorporated into nut allergy testing, i borrowed this from foodallergies.about.com)
Nuts: almond, coconut, filbert, peanut, pecan, sesame, sunflower seed, walnut
Foods always or almost always containing tree nuts include:
  • Nutella
  • Marzipan
  • Pesto (unless specially prepared without pine nuts)
  • Baklava
  • Pralines
  • Nut liqueurs (Frangelico, Amaretto, and Nocello)
  • Nougat
  • Turrón
  • Gianduja
Foods that commonly contain tree nuts include:
  • Macaroons
  • Granola bars
  • Trail mix
  • Cereal
  • Fudge
  • Caponata
  • Ice cream
  • Divinity
  • Candy bars
  • Baked goods
So all of this is very important to keep in mind when having a child or family member who is allergic to or that you suspect may be allergic to nuts or trees. I had no idea bout many of these elements being in products because a decent amount of them are "masked" by their foreign names. For every ingredient listed on a bottle there IS a more specific name for it or its bi-lingual name. SO here is what i found out on my quest for nut/tree less products.
Products to stay away from if you have this allergy are ones that have...
*Peanuts
*Tree Nuts

*Tea Tree Oil
*Coconuts ( Some may or may not be affected by coconut)
*Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate ( derived from coconut oil)
*Cetearyl Alcohol (fatty acids from coconut oil)
*Murumuru Butter ( if there is a present allergy to coconut oil one may be sensitive to this)
*Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts
*Sesame seed
*Poppy seed
*Brazilian Babassu
*Peas
*Bean Trees
*Sunflower seed

Potentially

*Shea Butter
*Olive Oil
*Both of these are potential concerns because they come from trees and are derived from trees.*
I'm sure there are hundreds more ingredients to avoid if you have the certain allergies but these are the main ones that are often in products cosmetics and beauty items as well as the ones we've encountered first hand..
YOU MUST READ AND KNOW YOUR INGREDIENTS because this type of allergy is severe, serious and life threatening at any given time, so you sure don't want to be using hair products that have these oils or elements in them.
Here's an FYI, if you are unsuccessful with finding tree or nut free products contact an organic product maker through any natural hair care blogs, websites or search engines and ask if they will make a special formulation of their products eliminating the nut or tree elements. It may cost a little more or you may have to search around for a while BUT they are out there!. We use Bee Mine and Darcys Botanical's mainly. Or you could simply begin making your own products from scratch so that you know what is in the product, how much is in it and most importantly that you, your child or anyone for that matter could possibly have a severe reaction that could have potentially been avoided. There are many out there that will do that and some will not charge you extra even.

If a company does have to charge you extra ITS WORTH every penny and probably because it takes more work to alter their recipes. Once a reaction to a nut takes place there is no home remedy to reverse it and an Epinephrine Pen is your only hope o-t-w to the ER. AFTER Benedryl is given and no reduction in reaction takes place quickly.

There is a very good chance that if you have these allergies and your products contain these ingredients, that you may be suffering from using them. Its even harder to determine if your children who may have these allergies are suffering from these products.

There is nothing wrong with using these ingredients in products for those who don't have these allergies.

Just please be weary :)

Hope someone can benefit from this post :)

Today's Curlee Style: Simple Play Hair and Following Braid Out...

Today's Curlee Style is from a few days ago... The inspiration for this one was simplicity and playtime! So since we had decided on a play date at the last minute at our local Fav play place i HAD to do something to her "all-over-the-place" hair. It was dry and in its puffy natural state so with not much thinking at all i just grabbed the spray bottle of distilled water, Bee Mine Juicy Spritz and Curly Butter along with our rat tail comb. I first dampened her hair with the distilled water and finger detangled, then i spritzed the JS and sectioned her hair into 4 angled cornrows beginning with splitting her hair down the middle and then splitting each section in twos. I applied the Curly Butter and began cornrowing. Here is the result :)

The object here was to have a non-busy, quick and cute styles that she could ruff house in and not destroy, rip or damage her hair in the process of playing. Kids like to touch her hair as it is so places like these that we go to to play with other kids i sure keep her hair as simple as possible. She readily tells people not to touch her hair but these kids who normally don't listen to anyone not even their own parents just ignore her... SMH and so then i have to step in and reinforce :)
I loved how this cute style turned out :) It took 30 minutes from start to finish and this is the 4th or 5th time i have done this and each time it seems to get better YAY for practice. After the style was complete i lightly applied some JS and added some of her new cute butterfly ballies to match her springy outfit and we were ready to PLAY!

This style i left in for two days and then had to unleash another braid out :) I feel like this... WHY let a perfectly gorgeous braid out be ruined by immediately washing her hair after a braid style? NEVER that. SO here is her braid out from these cornrows.

I used the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz as my refresher and look how gorgeous her hair has become since we began blogging in January!!! That is INCHES of growth!

I am surprised and very pleased with how this BO turned out because i did the cornrows to the back and usually this creates parted gaps that i cant finger separate well with out it bumping out...

Also our BIG girl has started playing Soccer!! She was so proud of her practice outfit that she insisted she show it off :)

(Here is an example of a failed twist out on Diva R's dry natural curlees... Where i have the arrows pointed is where the "bad-parting/direction" which created those sections/parts that wont lay flat or mesh in with the other ones in the twist out, so i tried to spray water into her hair and tousle it with my fingers but they were just stubborn and i ended up putting the twist out in a pony tail and it was cute at that point the blemishes were hidden. (no pics :( )

Happy Hair Styling :)

Here are 3 more additions to MY Creations :)

SO ever since i made that Tiana Bow, i have got this craftiness going on and though I'm not the most creative person alive i am very proud of what i have made! and ultimately Diva R loves them and that's all that matters :)

I have been looking for a great bow holder for a while now and i really want Diva R to have a tutu bow holder but i am so not willing to pay 35 plus dollars for one! That's robbery in my eyes. So until i find the itch to make one myself i decided to make a temporary bow holder.

This doesn't even hold all of her bows either but it sure did free up much needed space :) and it was easy to make.

I used three cut pieces of three bright colored bandanna's, a wooden hollow circle that was about 7 inches all around, liquid stitch, scissors and our left over Tiana ribbon. I plan on nailing this on to her wall until i make my next creation to better display these :) All in all the total crafting time took an hour and i let it dry for a few hours before i hung the bows on it.

I also made two new bows...

The bow on the left looks so much better in person than on camera, it has her full name across the center of it :) This one is super special to Diva because it has her name on it. It took about an hour to make! Insane i know but I'm still new into it. The bow on the right is my FAV of the two it took about two hours to make and required some handiness. I used some more of the cut up bandanna pieces from the bow holder to complete this bow :) Its a fun summery bright bow and i cant wait for Diva R to wear this one :) The other pieces included in the bow on the left are from a pair of my old jeans that i cut up and a misc button. LOVE my new hobby. These ones here cost me nothing because all of the items i used to make these were gifted to me.

Anyone have any crafting abilities??? I need to learn how to crochet... Any tips or resources that would help a beginner out?

Today's Curlee Style: Braid Out from Bday Yarn Rows...

So of course i had to do a braid out after those awesome Bday Yarn Row extensions and it turned out so lovely that i had to share! Now before i get to that, the extensions were put in on April 22nd and were taken out April 26th. I could have left these in for much longer due to them looking wonderful and minimal frizzies. I was just dieing to see the expected gorgeous braid out and i don't like to leave yarn in for long periods of time because i like to wash her hair twice-three times a week and it happens to be a peeve of mine.

As you can see her perfect crimp throughout her hair is evenly distributed!!! I have learned over countless braid outs that the BEST way to achieve a major crimpage to your braid outs is to braid cornrows off to the sides of the head, NO STRAIGHT BACKS. Doing straight backs will leave weird gaps between your crimps and make it look more messy than crimpy. Imagine a full rainbow, that is how the cornrows should be braided on the head either from left to right or right to left as you were braiding tracks in the hair for extensions so to speak is another way of describing the pattern.

The middle pic in the collage is the aftermath of taking the yarn out :) I didn't have to use much yarn and it took all of 30 min to take i down and moisturize it. My way of taking yarn braids down efficiently is spritzing the Juicy Spritz on her hair before i take them down and then using it again right after i take them out and shes good to go, as i go i finger detangle her rows:)

Through out this no-wash period i used solely the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz as her daily and nightly refresher and this product is the BEST ever and functions incredibly as a next day refresher and can be applied on top of previous applications over and over and it never builds up her hair and scalp drink this quenching potion! This is the perfect spritz to use over yarn also It has never saturated the yarn leaving her hair to saturate the juicy :)
