Thank God Im Natural Dual Review

Thank God Im Natural

We are hugely supportive of close to home companies and TGIN is one of those <3 So while i was searching for the perfect "natural" T-shirt for my Diva to wear i came across a super cute one on Thank God I'm Natural's Web Shop and ordered it immediately! I must say the very first time that i seen TGIN was at Naturally Flyy Detroit's Anniversary Hair Meet Up and it was a pure blessing in itself. They had everything from clothing-hair/skin products and nothing screams natural more clearly than adding GOD into the mix, that is what caught my eye immediately and through this day TGIN is the ONLY company selling natural items who highlights God and naturalness together in the hair world...
So thereafter we bought the shirt i had become increasingly interested in the Thank God I'm Natural Ultimate Guide to Caring for and Maintaining Natural Hair Book, after seeing reviews and evident hype over this i had figured that i should dive on in :) So Kathy/Jackie from TGIN had thoughtfully blessed us with a copy of the book and a copy to giveaway in our very next giveaway (stay tuned)...
Needless to say i have been taking my time to read this guide from front to back twice over making sure that i didn't miss any juicy details <3
So to begin with here is my Diva proudly wearing her Thank God I'm Natural Girls Shirt <3 She loves this shirt so much and it was also a huge hit at church as well, not to mention everywhere else we went... Its always so hard for me to buy shirts and such online for my Diva because her torso is longer and she is tall/skinny too so i went with the 4/5 size and the shirt is 100% cotton. The style of the shirt is a regular type unisex style T-shirt and at the time i believe i paid 14.99 plus shipping.

This was a great find in our book and i definitely recommend this super cute shirt for all the little Divas. There are also super cute and rockin women's shirts!!!

Thank God I'm Natural has a highly recommended book called...

Our Review

Type: Paper Back
Cost: $14.99

I do not even know where to begin with this review as i seriously skimmed the book first and then i read section by section at least twice or more over. I knew what i was getting myself into before i even dove in. At first i decided to gather some ideas about what i would expect from a book like this as well as some things that i would hope to read or learn from reading it. I came up with a list with some of the following...

*I hoped to gain some new insight on specific ingredients, product ingredient combinations specific to desired goals, new styling ideas and explanations of hair terminologies.

*I hoped to get some of my questions and dilemmas answered and resolved regarding natural hair and some various aspects of it.

*I wanted to gain some new resources that i could pass on to others as well as gain from myself.

*I was searching for clarification regarding relaxers, old school hair care methods, and the hair typing systems.

The above mentioned are only some of the things that i had in mind as there were tons of ideas and still new wonders daily that i think about or require more knowledge on... I cannot say what chapters are my favorite BUT i can say that the product recipes are some of the most fascinating as well as the break down of faux natural products and ingredients. I really liked the various links and shops listed which cater to natural hair and i seriously have to keep going back to chapters in this book because my mind just cannot retain all of the abundant levels of knowledge inside at once!!!!

In my opinion this amazing guide is wonderful for beginners through and beyond professional level individuals as there is so much information, knowledge, insight and tips/tricks to benefit from not a person is left out of gaining. I am especially thrilled at the complex dissection of the hair follicle and components there of. My expectations were thoroughly met and then some. Also compared to some other natural hair books the cost of this one is extrordinarily affordable and for the knowledge within is a must have in EVERYONE'S hair care regime.

I seriously have never been much of a reader unless i absolutely had to read something and i have always preferred to be more active and physical with my activities BUT this book is a definte regime changer for me (aside from my FAV manual being the Holy Bible KJV). I have yet to get bored with reading this and i forsee a growth in knowledge each time i return back to reading it.

The description of the book doesnt do it justice let me tell you there is MUCH MORE to this amazing guide to natural hair than the summary illudes :) I suggest you splurge on this guide as you will not regret it! Ive learned tons of new elements and tricks to perfect and switch up my daughters hair routine and i will be trying some of the product recipes. Ive gained several new sets of resources that i was unaware of before. It was refreshing to learn that there are several natural hair salons local to me too <3

We <3 and fully support TGIN and their mission <3

Angelic Soaps & Gifts by Dieshawn Holmes Peppermint ShampDoo Bar Review

Here is yet another product review on a sample i received from Naturally Flyy Detroit's Natural Hair Meet Up... This time around i am reviewing a Peppermint ShampDoo Bar from Angelic Soaps and Gifts by Dieshawn Holmes. Below is a picture of the actual sample that we received...

Right before we received this we tried our very first shampoo bar and need i remind myself how horrible that shampoo bar was and how ravaging on my daughters hair it was... So needless to say i was very skeptical about trying another one but after my friend tried hers on her daughters hair and LOVED it i decided id give in and try it.... Its natural, healthy and not filled with junk or stripping elements so i figured the worst that could happen would be that it just didn't work for us. The best thing that could happen would be that we just LOVE it <3 The sample we got was about 3 inches wide and a half inch thick or so.

My review is based off of several uses of the ShampDoo Bar, we used it from its fresh wholeness until it was gone.

Our Review

Color: Beige/Tan
Scent: Hempish
Texture/Consistency: Solid like soap
Cost: $6.50 per full size bar

The first thing i noticed was that this ShampDoo bar is solid and characteristically like soap. The scent of this bar is hard to pin point but i got evident gusts of a hemp/herbal-ness and a bit of a mint scent. I really liked the scent before i even put it to use, the texture seemed of a nice nature for a shamp bar. I decided to use this exclusively as my Diva's shampoo for the period that it lasted.

Below are some shots of a few uses of this ShampDoo Bar in the before and after tenses in my daughters hair. I must say that this shamp bar seriously has a nice, easy and smooth application. It is easy to use in its whole form and suds moderately without the harmful sudsing agents normally present in shampoo's.

As you can see the suds are evident which i prefer because there is nothing worse than a shampoo that doesnt show that its present or in action when it needs to be cleaning. As i was applying it i could feel the moisture being added to her hair, as it was also added to my hands. I was astounded to be able to note these wonderous elements coming from a shampoo bar. As i rinsed it out of her hair i could visibly note the moisture left in her hair from the bar and not to mention how soft my hands were too <3 Her hair was squeaky clean for sure but NOT stripped of its natural oils, it actually maintained her natural oils very well after ever use of this bar...

Here is a pic of the ShampDoo Bar rinsed out of her hair completely... The sheen was very nice.

Here are more before/after pics from another use of this Peppermint ShampDoo Bar...

As time has passed between uses, my opinion on this shamp bar has not changed and in fact there were times where i just added a leave in conditioner following with no need for an extra moisturizer since her hair was so well moisturized after just the shamp bar alone. I was very shocked at the results we received from this shamp bar as i sure didnt expect such great findings. The going thought is that shamp bars work great only on coarser hair types but this in fact is NOT TRUE. I even found that this shamp bar worked wonderfully on my hair and it felt flow-ey and weightless with a nice amount of after-moisture present.
I must thank DieShawn for blessing us with this sample as it has done great by us and if i ever come across it again in person i will definitely grab some up so we can review for future tense and lavish in its results <3
God Bless and keep in mind that if one type of product fails you dont just knock the whole type of product in general as you may miss out on something miraculous... Keep trying, keep trying... In Yo Gabba Gabba's spirit <3

Curly Zebra Chullo Satin Lined Hat in Ladybugs 'n Clovers

We have had the blessed opportunity to receive and review a Satin Lined Chullo Hat by Curly Zebra <3 After seeing Key from Keyative Styles sporting a hat from Curly Zebra we had to see what all the hype as about... Where we live it is cold/chilly at least 7-8 months out of the year so caps are a must here!!! I remember way back when, when i began looking for a satin lined cap and had not a stitch of luck and so eventually i just gave up searching as the only place i could find that sold these hats of the quality we required was out of the country and they were way over priced at that...

Boy was i glad that Curly Zebra surfaced because we were so tired of those itchy scratchy ill fitting hats of the norm that we only had a choice of liking or lumping. It was kind of hard to make sure we got the right size for the Diva because her head is of a larger size and she cannot wear child size anything on her head as it is. BUT we got it right and the hat that we got for her is an adult small.

We chose the Ladybugs N Clovers Chullo Hat and couldn't have made a better one...

I LOVE how this cute and girly trapper like hat fits and looks not to mention how soft it is and alongside the adorable pattern it all out ROCKED <3 The day that we got the hat Diva R's hair was styled in random parted pony tails with ballies and pony tails so her style was a bit bulkier in nature. This was the perfect day to test out the hat as well since most of the time i would take off her hats and find a newly messy or frizzy style that wasn't that way before i put the cotton/knit hat on her destroying time well spent creating a style. It was also very cold outside...

As you can see her cap just slid right over the style not pulling or disturbing the ponies all over...

With her curls being down the after math is comparable to it being styled and unde rthe hat... Not a bit of disturbance in sight and her hair remains well kept and full of its health pre-hat.
This is what the hat looks like top to bottom, don't forget it is handmade to perfection and with this being so one could never tell by looking at the fine details <3

The inside is seriously 100% satin and is as soft as silk and the outside is like a baby soft fleece material but not the kind that ever so quickly gathers those yucky fuzz balls.

Here is a glimpse of the inside liner and the super cutesy Curly Zebra logo...

My sweet Diva LOVES this hat beyond explanation and it has since replaced all other winter hats in our household. She is equally as thrilled today about this hat as the day she received it months ago. I have washed it a couple times now and there is not a bit of wear showing...

This hat is very cost efficient, shipping is fair and Curly Zebra also has a special going on currently where you buy 3 or more hats you get FREE SHIPPING <3 Click here to check out the Curly Zebra web shop...

I give a huge Kudos and Hug to Vicki from Curly Zebra for blessing my Diva with this amazing hat and for creating such an amazing line of satin lined hats... I know for all future tense we will be customers hands down!!! God Bless and guess what Curly Zebra even makes hats for BOYS so no little mans curls will be deprived of winters traditional hats<3

"Z" is for Zebra Hair-Style

Here is a style from a bit back that we did for a special Zebra week at Diva R's school... I didn't have many ideas how to incorporated festive Zebra-ness into her hair style so i said hmmm the phonics letter happens to be Z so why not try braiding a Z in her hair??

I googled myself crazy and i could not find any tutorials on the letter Z so i decided to just freestyle it and see how it turns out. I really wanted the Z to be evident so i figured that i would do it in the middle back of her head and do some pig tail to separate the hair evenly making the Z pop.
I first parted her hair into pig tails and clipped off the bottom half of her hair so i could part out the top part of the Z in its correct fashion. I used my rat tail comb to draw/part out the letter Z in her hair and though it looks complicated it was as simple as drawing a Z on the paper. Its like creating bubble letters to explain simplistically.

Then i clipped off both side sections so that i could cornrow the Z without interference. Then i rubber banded the very ending of the Z shaped cornrow so that the "tail" ending of the Z would blend in with her pig tails. Then i just braided each piggy tail into regular braids, rubber banded the mids and finger curled the ends.
Here is a front view... This is clearly another spin off of the foundated pig tail set with some intermediate flare.
This style took about 35 minutes to complete and lasted a few days with minor touch up to the pig tails.
God Bless
Diva R's Mommy-Kim

Pig Tail Braided Braids

Here is a simple and quick posting as this girly hair style is so easy and self explanatory, not much explanation is needed <3 I called this style the Pig Tail Braided Braids style because as you can see that's all there is to it... I added our normal products and put her hair in two pig tails with a center line parting and secured each with butterfly ballies. I detangled her pig tails and dampened it with some of our distilled water spritz as her hair likes to dry up quickly. I then finger parted three even sections from one pig tail as pictured below...

Then i braided the rightmost section into a regular 3 strand braid and rubber banded the ending. Then i braided the three sections together into one regular three strand braid (hence the braided braid name)... Which resulted in the cutesy eye popping style pictured below...

Here is a close up and this style is so easy that anyone can do it and there is no skill required. This is a simple and quick style which took 15 minutes from beginning to end to complete and we were off to begin our day.

This style is a style which paves the way to add creativity and flare to the already traditional pig tails so that by using the simple pig tail foundation and building on to it you can have your Diva sport them with her own edge incorporated.

Pig Tails With 2 Strand Rope Twists and Barrettes

Ive caught a case of the Pig Tail fever! Here is yet another simple quick and easy style from our recent vault of hairstyles for girls. I used some of our normal products that are in rotation with this style and its creation...

I dampened, detangled and parted her hair for pig tails with a part going straight down the middle. Then i pony tailed each side off with some white heart bobbles and i decided i wanted two rope twists stemming from each pig tail... (Rope Twists are the twists that are 3D in formation and they look like actual ropes) They are super easy to create and only require splitting the secton in two even parts and twisting each part counterclock wise and then twisting the two twisted parts together counte clockwise to form them into the "rope" shape.

These twists stay longest out of all for us and i love the 3D effect <3 All in all it took 20 minutes to create and stayed in place with some rubber bands and clips.

Simple quick cute and girly <3

Braid Out From Pretty Brown Girl Event Style

I have done a recent braid out style which is from the style i created for the Pretty Brown Girl Showcase we attended... Below is the style before braid out on the left and on the right is 1 day after the take down of her cornrows.

Here is what her braid out looked like as it was FRESH just seconds after i took her cornrows down.

I am very pleased with this braid out, there was so much crimpage to it and it looked great! Her hair still had so much moisture retained as well and it was really full as well. These following pictures are one full day old which was slept on even and it lasted very nicely...

Braid outs are awesome :) We LOVE them and its also a mystery as to how each braid out will turn out <3

Pig Tail's with Braided Heart's

This style was yet another Valentine's Day hairstyle which i felt the heart was necessary to incorporate into :) The pig tails with braided hearts style was a spawn style off of my previous Valentine pony tail with braided heart style. I decided to double the pony tail, create pig tails instead and construct them with hearts <3

I used some distilled water spritz followed by finger dabs of our Pretty Curls Whipped Hair Butter and topped it off with our Bee Mine Juicy Spritz ...

This style is very self explanatory and from beginning to end the style took 20 minutes to complete making this a simple and quick cute hair style for little Diva's.

Valentine's Day Topsy Tail Created Heart and Natural Curls Combination Hairstyle

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!! Here is yet another Valentine's Day hairstyle for the fellow Divas out there <3 I had already posted this one on our Face Book page and i had received the idea from one of the fellow amazing hair blogs i just forget which one(s) so if YOU have done this prior too i will gladly mention with credit <3

This style is "Topsy Tail" created and it begins with a half pony tail. After i pony tailed half of her hair i split the section into two even parts and i braided them individually creating two braids from the pony tail as shown below...

This is where the Topsy Tail tool comes into play... I do not know if there are modern versions of these as i have not seen any. This is one I've had since i was young that i had found un used in my misc boxes of things. I figured i would get it out and start playing with it!

Then i put the two braids through the hole on the Topsy Tail and centered the pick end underneath her pony tail and pushed the braids up through the pony tail to where they were then in a "water-fall" fashion one on the left and one on the right. I had two bobby pins handy and i molded each braid into a left and right forming a heart between the two and i used 1 bobby pin on each side to hold the heart in place. Then i rubber banded the two ends together as pictured below...

Here is a close up of the braided heart <3

I was going to leave her hair just like that with no addition but i decided that since i had so much hair in the top pony tail it thinned out her bottom section so i decided i would pony tail it with the top section remainder and adorn it with one of our new Valentine bows from Cute N Curly Bowtique <3

I used our distilled water spritz, Darcy's Botanical's Curl Styling Cream and Pure Jojoba Oil (which i will be reviewing shortly)...

The Jojoba Oil i used lastly as a sealer and moisture retainer and i used just over a nickel size amount along side a few spritzes of distilled water for dilution.

These are the bows we were blessed with for Valentines Day <3 <3 <3

This style was simple and quick and its super easy, no skill needed. This one is one of my favorite hairstyles that we did this year as of yet.
