Our 5th Annual Hair Show! Introducing Diva N...

It has been over a month since our last Hair Show and we are excited to get it back in motion especially with our friend Kandy's Daughter "N" from KandyLandKurls!!!!!

Meet N <3

Brief Bio

N is 6 years old, she is half African American and Puerto Rican.  Her hair type is mostly 3c mixed with 4a.
How and When you got started styling hair

I learned how to braid from my aunts, as a child. I would practice on my American Doll Addy, and Barbies. I was very scissor happy on my dolls :( and learned through trial and error. But it wasn't until I was 12 that I learned the hard way on my own hair. From dye, hot combs, gels, to chemicals. I experimented with a little bit of everything lol.
Hair care Routine/Pet peeves
I wash N's hair once a week, every weekend. I deep condition her hair every other wash, I use a rinse out conditioner also.
I try to make sure her hair is in some form of braids or twists, which helps to prevent knotting in the morning (she is a wild sleeper) I also try my best to put a satin scarf on her head (it tends to come off at night & I'm forgetful sometimes) but I do try to use it daily.
I give N a hot oil treatment, or I should say, warm oil treatment, once every month or every other just to make sure her hair is well oiled.
N receives a egg treatment, once a month. All I have to do is simply crack 2 raw eggs into a bowl and beat them. Then I apply the eggs to her dry hair and I let it sit for approx. 10 mins. Then I wash it out with warm/cold water and continue with shampooing. (FYI -it's important to use cold water, to prevent scrambled eggs in the hair..yucky)
Swimming- I make sure she has a leave in conditioner in her hair and I try to co-wash the next day to get the salt/chlorine out of her hair.
Products we are currently using: These products are in our current regimen, and may change as we try other products.
Shampoo- Bee Mine Botanical Moisturizing Shampoo/ Shea Moisture Shampoo.
Conditioners- Suave Naturals Almond and Shea Butter Conditioner(I rinse this out)/ Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner (I use it as a leave in as well and in my spray bottle.)
Deep Conditioner- Organix Coconut Milk /Bee Mine (Bee-U-Ti-Ful) Moisturizing Deep Conditioner.(I leave it on for 20 mins, with a shower cap and hot towel, then wash it out.)
Oils- Coconut Oil & Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Essential oils- Peppermint Oil & Jojoba Oil.
Styling Products- Bee Mine Curly Butter, Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk.
Moisturizer- Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer, Bee Mine Hair and Scalp Moisturizer, Bee Mine Juicy Spritz and My Homemade Shea Butter Mix (to seal-in moisture).
Likes/Dislikes regarding hair products

I love Bee Mine products for N's hair, Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner, and our Shea Butter Mix. I dislike the Denman Brush on her hair, even after modifying it, her hair would wrap around the brush and snap.
Favorite Activities

N is a yellow belt in Taekwondo. She is also in Girl Scouts, Gymnastics, T-ball, and her Schools Science Club. In the past she was in Ballet, and Beauty Pageants. Our favorite family activity is playing checkers, N is very good and beats her Dad all the time. We also love to wrestle as a family (weird, I know) but even our 1 year old tackles and wrestles at random moments lol.
How do you get your little one to tolerate hair time

If it's wash day or I am doing a style that takes 2 hours or longer, I put on a movie to keep her entertained. But for our shorter styles we talk the entire time. Since she was a baby, she never complained or fussed when getting her hair done.
Here are some gorgeous styles of N's!

N is such a doll! Thank You Kandy for having N on our hair Show! It was a pleasure getting to know more about N and seeing her lovely styles! Im still shocked i haven't had her on our hair Show until now :p Time flies! I don't know how you get anytime to yourself Kandy with Diva N and all of her activities and keeping lil man entertained too! You sure are supermom! I love the family wrestling that is so awesome!!! I think that may be a fun addition into our household! Usually daddy and the kids wrestle while mommy hangs out and gets things done but i now wanna get in the action too!!

Thank you Kandy for this blessed opportunity!

Hope everyone enjoyed this amazing Hair Show! Announcing Our 3rd Annual Hair Show, Introducing Dominique-Alexis!!

Hey everyone here is our 3rd Annual Hair Show and on the show this week is Dominique-Alexis! She is the creator of www.natural-hair-care-info.com

Thank you for allowing me to be on your blog. I’ve always enjoyed seeing other people’s guest posts so it’s really cool to do one myself.
Bio: My name’s Dominique-Alexis and my younger sister’s nickname is Bunny. She turned nine years old in March and is on the Shining Stars Gymnastics Competitive Team. She loves gymnastics, writing songs and singing. We live in the south and come from a very outdoors-y family. I’ve always known how to braid hair but only learn how to cornrow a couple years back. Bunny and I spend most of our time in school, the music school, volunteering at the zoo, in the gym or outside, which is why neither of us ever wear afros or twist outs. Flat twists, cornrows, and twists are the usual styles due to tumbling in the gym and outdoor humidity.

Our Hair Types: 3C & 4A for both of us. We have the same curl pattern but she seems to have more hair per square inch so you’d never know it :)

Race: African-American/Black
How and when I got started styling Hair: About three years ago. Simply because someone needed to do it (Bunny and I have four other biological sisters with natural hair so it was a handful on our mom to have so many heads to braid) and I really enjoy doing hair. (I’m hoping to get my braiding license soon!)

Hair care routine: I usually put on a movie like Up, Despicable Me, Megamind or something like that for her. Sometimes we’ll listen to music or she’ll play the piano. ANYTHING to distract her. I wash her hair once a week in the afternoon (adding conditioner before and after the shampoo goes in so I don’t strip her hair) then leave it to stretch so it’s mostly dry before bed. The next day I’ll comb her hair through, moisturize it and style it. Sometimes I’ll throw a co wash/no poo or two into the routine, depending on how dirty she gets her hair. As far as styles go, I have no idea how it’ll turn out until it’s finished.
I recently stopped using Herbal Essence shampoos because of how much it strips her hair and have started using Honey & Almond Moisture Whip Shampoo by Naked. Her hair loves it! Whatever conditioner is on sale or is in the bathroom is what I’ll use to detangle and I’ll leave a little bit in her hair to soften. Something else I do is moisturizer her hair nightly before I wrap it so it’ll still look pretty in the morning.

Likes/dislikes regarding hair/products/accessories or advice: My advice to anyone and everyone would be not to get caught up in putting a bunch of beads or bobbles in your little ones hair that can lead to hair damage and breakage. Instead, take the time to make the parts neat or by getting creative with cornrows instead. Neat hair is pretty; it doesn’t have to be covered with bows and stuff. It can be, but it doesn’t have to be.

Favorite family activities/hobbies/interests: Family time, being outside, camping, horseback riding, working on my site, watching the fire with the family, playing with the dogs. I’m pretty live in the moment I guess.

How do you get your little one to tolerate hair time? I get people (sisters/friends) to stay still by being really gentle, this makes it a positive experience. I’ll put the TV on or let her use the computer or give her a snack or a toy. I ALWAYS try to be VERY GENTLE and now she’s learned to love hair time. A quick tip is not to stop your daughter or son from having fun with their friends or their game cube thing or whatever it’s called :) to do their hair, because then they’ll hate hair time.

Thank you Dominique for participating on our Hair Show, it was an honor being able to display your art work and learn about the artist behind the scene. I must highlight the positivity displayed from Miss Dominique-Alexis, through my getting to know her i have gained such an inspiration from just conversing with her that i have to share!!

I couldn't believe she is 15 when i read that in a previous blog interview because her demeanor, devotion and dedication on the side of her family closeness just blew me away. Most 15 year olds are just the opposite of Miss D and are off doing their own thing. I believe that Dominique-Alexis is a wonderful inspiration for all tweens-teens out there, family is first, school and getting good grades being secondary are not options but Duties to her. As a young person it is crucial and important to put family and school over any and all things, and even as you age family is always  top priority unconditionally.

Usually one doesn't learn how to or how hard it is to manage a household until you've become an adult yourself, but Dominique has the drive and initiative beyond words and there seems to be no such thing as hard to her, its just so touching to see her levels of care and positivity towards her helping her Mother with her sisters and in general. YAY Dominique for lack of better words! Kudo's

Check out her lovely Natural Hair Care site it is PACKED with EVERYTHING one would want to learn, see or be inspired by. There are tutorials of ALL KINDS, picture demonstrations, many gorgeous styles, information and much more!!

Hello,
Bio: My name is Tiffany I am a wife and mother of two kids (boy, girl), my hair type is a mix between 3b and 3c I would say but I don't really know I think there is some 2c mixed in too those charts are hard to , I am creole and black. My dad is creole (a mix of Black, French, Indian) for those who don't know his family is from Lousiana and my mom is black.
Here is her Curly Wash and Go Style

How and when you got started styling hair
I took over the reigns of styling my hair once I turned 14 and hit high school. Maybe I was a late bloomer ha! but my mom still did my hair through middle school, simple styles, like one ponytail or a bun or something. Although I just began to recently take an interest in making sure I am using the right method's and right products for my hair type

Here are her results from a Twist Out

Hair care routine
This is ever changing but for now I wash my hair once a week usually on Saturdays using Curl's Shampoo and Conditioner (this will be changing very soon though) I do co-washes about 2 times a week using my VO5 Moisture Milks Peach Smoothie Conditioner with some EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) mixed in. I detangle my hair while wet in the shower using a wide tooth comb, I wash and condition my hair in four sections, then I wrap each section into a ball with a ponytail holder and squeeze out the excess water, I don't use a towel at all anymore. I found that the towel caused frizzing and dried my hair out too much. I clarify my hair once a month with Eluence Volumizing Clarifying Shampoo and follow with a Deep Conditioner that I leave in my hair for 30 min with a plastic cap on. I usually style my hair in braid outs, twist outs, buns, or ponytails with the curls hanging free :) I use Eco Style Gel, Lock & Twist Gel (for twist outs and braid outs) Darcy's Botanicals Organic Coconut Hibiscus Conditioning Oil and I am still searching for a moisturizer.

This is Tiffany Rockin' Straight Hair

Likes/dislikes regarding hair/products/accessories

I don't use any hair accessories except bobby pins, Goodies Ouchless ponytail holders with no metal, but even then I find where those connect they still can snag my hair so I have to be careful, banana clips are my fav hair accessory!

Favorite family activities/hobbies/interests

My interests include reading, crocheting, making hair accessories, scrap booking, making crafts, watching my son play basketball and my daughter dance, and spending quality time with my hubby!
