Way Back Wednesday Style Reflection

SOOOO this is our weekly WBW Style Reflection hair show case and i really enjoy sharing these with everyone and hope you all are liking them as well :) Diva R and her hair has changed so much over the years and i realize how much i have learned since then and believe that the transition that Diva R's hair has went through and still is going through may be of help to others searching for ways to style these ever changing curls!

This style is from September of 2010 just a month and a week after i learned how to cornrow :) I call this style  a Combination Style  it is a little bit of everything incorporated into one style and with the bright colored accents it made for a fun style for the beginning of the cold months... The hair hanging from her ponies are two strand twists ending in clips, not separated just flowing together cute and shiny :) I had no hair knowledge at all at this time so i just went with what ever flow i found interesting or from advice i received as i went... But i can tell you that i used what ever shampoo i was using for myself as well as conditioner and the Lets Jam Hair Gel for hold.

I threw in some pink clips and some pig tails in the back and in a total of an hour this style was done :)

The below style is from October 2010 and this is a Veil with Pigtail and Bantu Knot combination doo with the inclusion of her baby hairs too as they will be here for ever i believe :)

I braided two of the end groupings of hair from the veil going into the "Pigtailed" Bantu Knots while i left the others flat for a variation :) I just parted square parts from her forehead going back and "Veiled" them into the resulting design...

This above style was also one of the first Bantu Knot styles that i ever did and i was surprised at how good it turned out I used black pony tails to hold the Knots together I chose to keep this a natural looking style so i didn't use any hair accessories and this is seriously one of her fav if not her most FAV styles i have ever done she calls it the "Triangle Hair"

FYI: Every style i show case is possible to be done on ANY hair type, hair styles are not ethnicity limited and in our curlee perspective anyhing is possible and dont let our name fool you :) Curlee are curlees and our blog is for EVERYONE!!!

Hope you enjoyed our WBW Style Reflection...

Does everyone like our WBW's?? We would like feedback please and thank you :)

Todays Curlee Style: Princess Tiana Inspired & My First Ever Hand Crafted Bow!!

In honor of Princess Tiana i decided to try a Sock Bun and since i never did a SB before i decided to just give it a whirl :)

Here is Diva R's hair before i put the sock bun sock on her pony tail :)

Below is of the first EVER sock bun sock that i ever constructed and i must say that doing them with regular socks is the way to go, i chose this fuzzy purple sock because it matched Divas dress perfectly that she was going to wear... Problem was it that it was WAY to bulky for Divas hair so i cute it down quite a bit and after fussing with it just threw the towel in on that sock bun sock because her hair just wasn't long enough or thick enough for it :)  So i them got a brown dress sock of mine and cut it up and rolled it into a donut and it worked GREAT or at least better than the first attempt (have no pics of the brown sock bun sock)...

I put Diva R's pony tail through the sock bun sock (SBS) like so...

And here is how it turned out using the smaller sized sock... i decided that i didn't want to pin her hair under the bun or "comb" it under there so i just left a waterfall of free curlees falling from the sides and bottom of the bun :) I see now that i could have used a bit bigger of a sock for a fuller bun but i was pleased with the results :)

BTW the Tiana bow is the FIRST EVER bow i have ever made!!! I am so proud of myself :) It took over an hour though since I'm a neewbie BUT it was relatively easy and i just love how it turned out.. Had to get some Tiana ribbon to compliment her Tiana dress that Dawn's Bowtique made special for Diva R :)

Below is a side shot of Diva R's Tiana Inspired hair doo for her Pa's birthday party...

The reverse side shot :) (slightly fuzzy looking but was perfected of course before we left )

Above and below is my awesome creation :) This bow consisted of a freestyled idea, Tiana ribbon from Walmart that was $2.97 and i still have some left, some liquid stitch, scissors, white sequins, smaller purple ribbon, small shiny sparkly white ribbon, a center flower accent and an alligator clip that i recycled :)

Here is the Diva modeling her FAV dress that inspired this hair doo and bow creation :)

Here is the Diva in action singing and dancing sporting her FAV princess :) I seriously got stopped all night as well as my husband by people asking where we got her dress and bow and my hubby felt the need to showcase my creation and boast that i made the bow and did her hair :) Yay hubby :) That was an all night pick me up, i got to live in that moment and brag about Dawn's Bowtique too of course :) All the little girls wanted a dress like hers <3 that made Diva feel so special, things like that move her so greatly and shes so appreciative of peoples compliments also :)

We used our reg products for this hair style and total time for style completion was 30 min tops :)

God Bless :)

This is our VERY FIRST *Shop-Light* and we are very happy to choose Dawn's Bowtique for our 1st feature!!!!!!
(Spot light for shops,stores, boutiques...etc)

I came across this bowtique while just surfing FB for new friends/pages and i haven't really seen bowtiques/boutiques and such advertised on FB before, and i had stumbled upon Dawns’s Bowtique and just HAD to share our experience with everyone!

Dawn founded her bowtique in 2007 with her motto being "Every day is a Hair Bow day!"
She makes everything from hair flowers, hair bows, to activity's bags, to dresses, including baby shoe booties, doll clothing, a big variety in customizable hair accessories and hats not to mention tutus and tutu poofs "what a great compliment to the tutu!" (these are super adorable and i haven't seen them anywhere else) and MORE....

PLUS she can make monogrammed custom items, appliqués, embroidery, and coordinating birthday party themed outfits with matching cakes/cupcakes. Seasonal items, sports fans personalized children’s outfits, costumes and pretty much anything you can think of!
This is a fashion "bow-tique" specializing in unique, custom made clothing & accessories for babies, toddlers and big kids! Custom orders are always welcome!!

There are even MANY items customizable for boys!!!!

Everything made by Dawn is handmade and comes from her pet and smoke free home.
I think her talent is amazing and how I found Dawn’s Bowtique was by comment reading on some of my current FB friends and seen a dress posted on her profile that was topic of discussion which she had made for her daughter and i was just taken back!. It was this gorgeous unique Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Dress and i just had to get Diva R a dress like this!

I added her bowtique and conversed with her over different patterns Diva likes and colors and she came up with this gorgeous dress for Diva R and we are so blessed to be able to review this one of a kind dress! Thank you Dawn for your overly generous blessing we are very proud to showcase your bowtique!!

This is the GORGEOUS dress that Dawn made for Diva R!!!! Needless to say Diva R FLIPPED OUT when she seen this! She wanted to wear it EVERYDAY and even to bed! But i had to hold out on letting her wear it for a special event so she was really pumped and built up by the time that came around and WOW did she ever enjoy wearing this dress. Tiana is her FAV princess so this was extra special to her. The quality of this T-shirt dress is remarkable! The stitching is perfect, the shirts are of GREAT quality as well and nothing could have been any greater about this dress :) It exceeded way beyond our expectations!

And here is the Diva herself PROUDLY modeling/wearing her lovely Tiana dress!!!

And here she is in action with her prized hand crafted dress :) Singing a special song for her Pa and everyone at her Grandpa's Birthday party :) Her song of choice was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star :) I wanted to cry! i was so shocked she grabbed the mic and started singing her heart out! My little angel!
and of course dancing the night away twirling around showing her self off :)

She got compliments ALL night about her dress! Seriously everywhere i turned someone else was grabbing me and wanting to know where we got the dress :) One of a kind for sure and we love one of a kind items because its great to sport things no one else has whether locally or PERIOD! :)

I have to say that this dress is one that you WILL NOT find in the stores, Dawn can make any type of pattern, character themed or styled T-shirt or tank top dress imaginable! and for a LOW 20.00 you cant beat that!!! This dress has brightened up my little Divas world!! We just <3 it and plan to shop at Dawn's Bowtique forever!!!

(and in case anyone is wondering the matching bow that she is wearing I made myself!! and it was the first bow i have ever made!!!)

Also Dawn makes awesome custom cakes, cupcakes and cake pops! Cakes by Dawn, are every child's dream cakes! (adult dream friendly as well), I know when i was a kid i always wanted a sculpted cake! Giveaway Giveaway Giveaway!!! Sidewinder Hair Holders!

We've been blessed to be able to provide our family members with a Sidewinder Hair holders Giveaway!  We were blessed with some sets of hair holders so that we could provide a bright and springy review for our cherished readers, THANK YOU SUSIE!

We had discovered the Sidewinders through Keep Me Curly :)

Susie over at www.hairholders.com has generously offered two of our blessed readers each a full set of Sidewinders Hair Holders of their color choice J

(These pictured are some of my personal Sidewinders :))

For those of you who don't know what Sidewinders are here is a snippet from hairholders.com "the beginnings of this business started as an idea while Susan Lowry, owner, was camping/RVing. She saw colorful twisted wind spinners on many RVs and thought, “Gee. That sure would look cute in the hair.” Of course she was right…..they do look pretty awesome in the hair. And that was the start of Sidewinder Hair holders.
Located in El Dorado Hills, California, Sidewinder is dedicated to providing you with a unique, fun, colorful hair holder at an affordable price to use when you style girls’ hair. Think of us as the hair beads and barrette alternative.
So whether it’s a curly hair hairstyle, hairstyle medium length, girls long hairstyles, short hairstyles, school hairstyle, all the cute girls’ hairstyles look better with Sidewinder Hair Holders."

Hair Beads Alternative

"SIDEWINDER HAIRHOLDERS – THE FASTER, EASIER HAIR BEADS & BARRETTES ALTERNATIVE
Instead of the traditional time-consuming method of placing multiple beads on one braid and having to use a hair beading tool, with a Sidewinder Hairholder all you need is just ONE holder for each braid, which of course eliminates a ton of time spent loading beads onto a beader and then putting the beads on each individual braid on girls braided hairstyles.
Another excellent advantage to beads is you can easily take the holder out of the hair, even when you use the holders on small braids with a bead to secure the holder! Also, be sure to check out our video and hairstyle galleries to see all the cute girls hairstyles which do not require an elastic band or bead at the end.

Sidewinder Hairholders are excellent for hairstyles with braided cornrows, to use in place of hairstyles with beads or hairstyles with barrettes, or to use in place of dreadlocks with beads.
Actually, the ways you can use these holders to create cute girls hairstyles are endless. The look you create depends on how you choose to wear them. This girls hair accessory is so different from what is currently on the market, I’ve actually had people come up to me and ask, “What is that in your hair? It’s so cool!!”
And you can use them in all hair textures and hair lengths, including girls long hairstyles, hairstyles for medium length, short hair, natural hair, cornrows, braided hairstyles. We do recommend with fine hair you add an elastic band at the end.

The hair holders come in three sizes, 1″, 2″ and 3″, which allows for even more hairstyle versatility. Our 1″ holders are especially good for pinning back bangs.

Since the holder comes in 25 colors, you can match just about any outfit. And each holder has two pieces, which allows you to make them multicolored. Make your own custom two-color combinations. For example, why not show team spirit by wearing your school colors or your favorite sports team’s colors on one holder." Copied from hairholders.com

The first picture is of a pair of Sidewinders together (2 inch)..

The second picture here is of the Sidewinders separated, these are 2 inch SW's and a 1 inch purple SW :)

The picture below is a close up of a 2 inch Sidewinder with a SMALL pony bead enclosure at the end.

Below is a better quality picture of  one of our 2 inch SW.

This one below is of a SW in Diva R's hair that has a chubbie at the end versus a small pony bead and i took this picture to illustrate that ONLY the small pony beads look good and fit well securing the Sidewinder hair holders. Chubbies at the end are VERY bulky and stick way out...

I had previously reviewed Sidewinders and a style that i chose to incorporate them into click here to reflect on it :)

I attempted to attach one of two Sidewinder tutorials i made BUT for some reason i am unable to upload via blog and YouTube :( Not sure whats going on but YouTube said it would take over 4 hours to upload one video and it was counting up not down!! GRR :( Not sure what to do i have three tutorial videos total i cant upload... BUT i was able to upload it to our FB admin page
So i am going to have to link to another video until i can figure it out :)

You can click here to see my tutorial and demonstration on how to put Sidewinders in the hair, but you must be a FB friend of ours to view it through this link since our content is exclusive to our members only :)

Way Back Wednesday Style Relfection :)

Here is a style from November of last year and this style in particular was done for pictures :) It is what i would say is a Combination Style. It includes a half hawk on top with her normal ringlet curls (finger twirled) hanging loose, one big center cornrow going up into the hawk on each side of Divas head. The back half of her hair is in pig tails with her lovely loose ringlets dangling nicely...
    The Side shot :)

We just used Twist and Locks Natural Honey Formula Gel... and i twirled her curls one by one  with my two fingers for a simple yet elegant look for her formal pictures :)

    Top View

This style took about and hour and a half or so :)
The style below was done in Dec of last year and was the first simple bigger sized corn rows style in an angle that i attempted and i think they turned out rather well. I was going for something different  but simple and i was heavily practicing big sized cornrows at this time :) Per some advice i received.

As you can see my sections may look nice but my hair grabbing isn't as clean as it is becoming over several months of practicing.

The below pic has the embellishment of choice which is a little purple butterfly and i just nestled it in between two of the c-rows :) I used the Twist and Locks in this Style also, i liked the hold of this gel versus the Lets Jam gel...
(Look at those LONG baby hairs!!!)

This was shortly after i learned how to french braid... I never knew any type of braiding methods or styles outside of the regular braid that would hang from a pony tail...
I added a ballie to accent the butterfly and off we went. This style took about 45 min ( Back then i was SNAIL slow)
My mom was a fan of the big poofy curly hair  via curling irons and LOTS of hair spray when doing my hair as i was little, she also loved the super tight pony tail with fluffy curled bangs, or pig tails with loose braids...

Hope you enjoyed our reflection :)

Today's Curlee Style: Simplicity, Done Quickly :)

This style i would call the last minute errands hair doo which i didn't plan on doing her hair this day in particular but it was kinda all over the place so i decided to hurry up and do just a simple off to the side pony tail with one big braid :)

    Items i gathered were...
    *Tangle Teezer
    *Spritz bottle of distilled water
    * Bee Mine Curly Butter
*a Ballie, Pony Tail and 2 Rubber bands

I spritzed Diva R's hair in a moderate amount with the distilled water finger detangling as i go slightly. I put some CB on my hands and covered her mids and ends then i used the TT and worked it through and through detangling also as i go. I add a little more CB to slick it off to the side smoothing with the TT as needed. I rubber band it, add the ballie do one big regular braid, rubber band that top it off with the matching pony tail and off we go :)
    All done in 10 min.

<3 Simple and cute doo's. Her baby hairs are always REALLY out there when i do pony tail styles like this but i fluff them to be evenly spread and use a dab of CB if needed to tame them better.

I just love these ballies we got from Elder Beerman :) I haven't found any like these since...

Everyone getting ready for the organization contest??? I will be posting details within the week or so :)

Lavish Curls Moisturizer 2nd Day Curl Refresher by Curls

I was HEAVILY searching high and low without missing the in-betweens for hair products for Diva R that were nut and tree free and i came across www.curls.biz and found this product...

Lavish Curls Moisturizer 2nd Day Curl Refresher

The claim is that this product is to reactivate and moisturize curls with also being a 2nd day refresher.

Ingredients: water, glycerin, polysorbate 80, methylheptyl isostearate, silk amino acids, certified organic anthemis nobilis flower extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, certified organic camelllia sinensis leaf extract, citric acid, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, disodium EDTA, potassium sorbate, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, fragrance

    Scent: Mango/Peach
    Color: Clear

    Consistency: Liquidy

    Purchased From: Target
Well after  many days of late hour searching and weeks of store hopping in search of an ideal product to moisturize and or condition Diva R's hair to my liking via online searching, networking, shopping store to store and attempting to concoct, i had came across the Curls line.  I had seen this line before and had visited their website often but didn't know that there are multiple lines within the Curls name and local stores sell them. So after dwindling it down between Kinky Curly, Twisted Sistas, and the Lavish Curls Moisturizer i had to try the moisturizer since Kinky Curly was sold out even though i was told it wasn't before i drove to the store and Twisted Sistas want even on the shelves at target either!!. That made for a less than desirable trip made since i had called every Target local and only that one told me they had both and they were both completely in stock!! I looked up the products at the local Targets in my area linked through Curls.biz and All of the places that came up don't even sell this set... That's at least what the stores said that i called.

Needless to say VERY STRESSING but i was pleased with the Lavish Curls moisturizer (which the name has been changed by the company and its search-able under Quenched Curls) from its reviews i read and how it is nut and tree product free :) It was one of these lonesome 4 (below pictured) products that Target sold. The specific products that i was in search of were not even sold in these stores in my state :( So i was also looking for the Kinky Curling Custard and it was sold out also...

I was surprised to see these four products on a local store shelf! normally its that junky off brand harsh chemical filled stuff if i see any ethnic products anywhere. This is the CLOSEST to great i have seen local, so hopefully some good change is about because ordering online is a drab most of the time. These all would be great products for Diva R but all of them have something tree or nut related in them besides the Moisturizer we chose. Ive seen alot of good reviews on all of these above products and few bad.

As far as our review is concerned,
I was set out for a spray moisturizer until i got my new product in so nothing was going to change my mind on that pretty much so when i seen that these were all i had to choose from i just went with the Lavish, popped the top and tested it, it passed all of my initial tests and a little over $11.00 later we decided :)

I first noticed that the scent is real familiar and as of now we have products mostly contaning the Mango Peachy scent so it was pleasant and not overbearing to the nose. The texture didn't seem greasy or residual and it was smooth and silky to the touch without turning sticky at anytime even after hours of wear and after application.   When i used this for the first time Diva R's hair was freshly washed with our Bee Mine Botanical Wash Shampoo and nothing following so i could really test this moisturizer.

Her hair was slightly damp but mostly air dried.
Below is her hair before the product application.

This is Diva R's hair after application and with me stretching random curls to illustrate her true length when not fully wet.

I would have to say that the immediate flaw about this product is the spritz topper (like ALL other reviews i read) the spritz top spits out the product like pellets or BB's which in our opinion isn't a great feature.  This is an easy fix though :) Just replaced the spritz top and we have our "mist" that we like now of it.  I just don't like having to spray it into my hand and then apply it, since its a SPRITZ its meant to be spritzed :) Other than that it seems to coat her hair thoroughly without using alot of it.

Below is a few random curlees that i separated from the others to show the definition that this product produced (you can see different curl forms well here that are present all through her hair :))

Id say that the texture is suitable as a moisturizer and it doesn't get sticky, or feel greasy.  It has a lasting silky feeling that is present in the hair also. I like the feel of the Lavish Curls on Divas hair, this works as a great detangler also !!! I cant say that i have seen a "crunchiness" in her hair after using the product even for days at a time between washes and during styles I've yet to see that so maybe that's hair type dependant as to if it will leave ones hair crunchy as i have seen claimed in others reviews.

Diva R LOVED the smell of it, right when i put it on for the first time she said "WOW Mommy this hair product smells GOOD it smells like Bananas! Yummy!"

I don't get where she gets the Banana scent from lol but as long as she loves it its good by me :)

Off to bed to see how this moisturizer works over night with no previous conditioners or moisturizers.

I have experimented with this many times before posting a review on it as i do with ALL other products. the first night i did the sleep cap experiment with no conditioners her hair the next morning was soft and not too fluffy and freshly scented like a peach tree :) Id say that this moisturizer doesn't completely moisturize over night well through sleeping and all without using conditioners before hand. That's ok though because it doesn't claim to do that :) BUT id say that it does follow through to its 2nd day refresher intention's.  I would also say that based off of our experience that this is a good braid refresher and if desired to be normally used as a daily moisturizer it would have to be applied 2-3 times daily for Diva R's hair type. This works better for us as a refresher for styles already in place.

We will continue to use this with its different spray nozzle of course interchanging between using it as a moisturizer, detangler and style refresher.

This product is a good find in our household and we plan to continue using it :)
