Hair-Spiration: Christmas Hair Style Triangle Braids With Beads

Here is some throw back Hair-Spiration that i have recently come across that i have not posted on my blog yet. This is a style that i did for Christmas a few years ago and it is simply triangle parted braids with beads :)  I couldn't find the individual pictures of this style as my computer recently crashed and it took forever for the shop to fix it... So ill be back on here and there until the dust settles at home... For now this style from the vault can get some brains working for some Christmas inspiration for this upcoming holiday season.

This style took about an hour and a half and lasted over a week.

Christmas Day Hairstyle

We started our blessed day of Christmas by opening gifts then having breakfast and going to church, followed by three family dinners and then quality family time at home.  Needless to say we were on the go from sun up to sun down and we always dress up for Christmas and go all out in Jesus name as Christmas is really in honor of his joyous birth.  This is why we celebrate Christmas and THIS YEAR was extra special because Jesus Birthday fell on a Sunday and our church had its service in his special honor and it was nothing short of a breath taking experience to be in the house of the Lord on his special day! 

We woke up and sung Happy Birthday to Jesus and proceeded on with our day.  We got ready for church and off we went so the switch up style that i did on Diva R's pony tail and cornrow style with finger curls was one that was simple and quick. I had to throw in our new red Sidewinders alongside our white and clear for the candy cane color representation to add a splash to her whole ensemble. These were the 2 inch size hair holders and i secured them each on with a small pony bead rubber banded at the ends.

Notice the amazing Christmas Bow that my sweetheart is wearing? It matches her dress to a T and was perfectly big for the occasion and not to mention its was a blessing from my friend Mommy A for my Diva specifically. Here is a side profile...

 I just simply braided the what were previously finger curls into regular braids which i ended with Sidewinders and the cornrows were left as is and just ended with Sidewinders. Total i used 20 hair holders and 20 rubber bands and this switch up took about 20 minutes.

Her hair is growing before my eyes! I am so proud of our amazing journey!

Christmas Eve Hairstyle

Well Christmas came and went as we are so busy through the holidays my idea to style Diva R's hair was to style it in a fashion that i could change it up between a few days while still maintaining the same blue print style.

This style is very self explanatory so i will spare the detail :) I call this style a pony tail and cornrow style with finger curls.  This is my sweet Diva R on Christmas Eve :)

Here is a back/side view of the style. As you can see i parted 16 squares from the beginning of her hair line in the front until nearly the whole back of her head. Then i parted 4 cornrows at the very nape of her neck. I left this style neutral looking and didn't jazz it up with any accessories as my plan was to achieve an elegant yet natural look. 

I used our distilled water spritz, Bee Mine Curly Butter and Shea Moisture Spritz and used them respectively. These curls displayed are her NATURAL curls and as the day went they sprung up slightly more and more and i did not use anything but my finger to amplify her already in place ringlet curls. I found that some parts of her hair doesn't like to curl uniformly with the surrounding curls. I keep finding different texture curls and reverse patterns of curls all throughout her hair, this may be challenging at times to tame just right for some looks and within styles like this i find that sometimes making several or a few finger curls in one pony tail or grouping's this helps to keep the pattern flowing <3

I love styles like this because they are versatile, suitable for any occasion and can be a unisex hairstyle with minor tweaks as well as them being simple and quick.

I went with symmetrical parts this time and as i went i formulated the following days changes that i planned on doing so that it was more jazzed up for Christmas Day <3

 All in all this style took about 35 minutes.

The rubber bands i use and LOVE now are these pictured below... I bought them at the local beauty supply store and have noticed over time they changed brands so the last few times i bought some they were ok but snapped often as well it was hit or miss. These rubber bands are great and have withheld all tests and have not damaged her hair at all and in fact they are very giving on her hair and have yet to snap <3

Pony Tail Veil With Double Flip Braids and Sidewinder's

I love to experiment and when i am fresh out of pre-planned ideas i feel this is the best time to break out a new experiment. The only pre-planned element of this style were the Sidewinders and hair bow.  I call this a Pony Tail Veil With Double Flip Braids and Sidewinder's, the long name thoroughly covers all aspects of this busy yet cute style.

 I gathered some of our random products alongside the rat tail comb, Tangle Teezer, rubber bands, six 2 inch Sidewinders in white and clear, a new and amazingly cute reindeer bow that my friend Mommy A made for my sweet Diva <3 and a brown elastic pony tail which blended in with her hair color well.

I began by sectioning off the frontal section with the rat tail comb which i then parted out 6 boxes and rubber banded them off individually then i added the Sidewinders via our 8 inch beader and began smoothing the free hair along side the remainder hair with the SW's into a snug pony tail.

Then i separated the pony tailed hair in two even sections creating a left and a right section. Then i braided each section into regular 3 strand braids, forming two hanging braids. Next, i simply "flipped" each braid upwards wrapping them around the pony tail once and then i grabbed the elastic band and secured the two loose ends around the top of the pony tail. This created super simple yet complicated looking double flipped braids.

I adorned the top front part of the pony tail style with the reindeer bow so that the loose ends were hidden and it was complete! I spritzed the finishing light moisturizer of our choice and in about 25 minutes we were finished and ready for school.

 In case you need clarification, by looking at this above picture the leftmost braid is flipping over the rightmost and then wrapped once around the pony tail and secured on the top along side the right most braid which was wrapped around the opposite way.

Candy Cane Pig Tails

Here is another Christmas Style and this one is completely original and from our own personal creation :) I had the idea that i wanted to do a candy cane style BUT i wasn't sure how i was going to pull this off or what i was going to use to do it. Since we are going to be moving lots of my supplies are packed away already so i had to improvise since i don't like re-buying things i already have :)

That is when the idea came to me and i didn't see anything like it online so i decided to go with the flow and this is what i came up with!

 Here is how i created this style and what i used to create it...

I began by gathering our wide tooth comb, Curly Butter, several clear rubber bands, white yarn, 4 red pipe cleaners, and 4 red pony tails.

I knew that i wanted complete candy cane replicas and i thought that creating pig tails to illustrate this would look nice. I got stopped all over asking how i did this and it is so much simpler than it looks. I began with putting red pony tails at the base of her pig tails and then took the white yarn and tied a knot around the base of her hair under the pony tail snug enough to stay in place but not super tight enough to destroy her hair at the base.  THEN i began to spiral wrap the white yarn down the rest of her pig tail and i did this in such a fashion that i was using medium tension so that you couldn't see any hair poking out in between the yarn.

This was also very proficient in making sure that when i was done i could "mold" the yarn into more of a candy cane looking form when i was done wrapping.

So i repeated this yarn wrapping on the other pig tail and then came the trickiest part of this style. I really would have preferred red yarn for the top portion but this was the item that was packed away and i sure didn't want to buy more since i have a few whole spools of it. So i opted for red pipe cleaners as these were all i had that were similar in effect.  I had to use two pipe cleaners per pig tail. I began at the base of the pig tail and tucked the ending of the pipe cleaner into and around the pony tail holder which secured it in place so that i could widely wrap and space it out spiraling downwards over the yarn creating the candy cane look. Then i added the second pipe cleaner beginning right on top of the first one and using a clear rubber band on top of it to secure it so that it wouldn't unravel.  I repeated this on the other pig tail.

I finally wrapped the pipe cleaners around the end of the wrapped pig tail and then added another clear rubber band to secure the endings of each pig tail. Then i went and "molded" the pig tails into the best candy cane shape that i could with what was provided by hand and in about 20 minutes the candy cane style was complete! I made sure not to wet her hair nor spray anything over top of the style because yarn gets yucky when wet and i sure didnt want to create a monster out of the yarn. This was a school style and a major success.

Cute, funky, simple and quick.

Reindeer Christmas Hair Style and Sock Bun Tutorial

I am sooo backed up on styles so i am trying to hurry and present these Christmas ones before i get to the rest and this one in particular i had seen over at Princess Piggies. Lately i have been searching for new style ideas and since my daughters hair is more easily done now that its longer and maintained well i can venture out into styles i wasn't able to do years ago.

This version of the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer is what i would like to consider our Curly Version of the one we seen. Below are the constructed Reindeer pieces that form the whole Reindeer face alongside the rolled sock which completes the nose/face.

In total i gathered...

-5 bobby pins (any type of bobby pins will work)

-Red puff ball/pom pom (found in all craft isles)

-2 brown pipe cleaners

-Sharpie

-1 small section of a random piece of cardboard box that i had laying around that happened to be white for the eyes.

-Hot glue (if your doing this style like i did i suggest using only super glue or hot glue as the eyes will not stay together if you use different glue or adhesive)

-2 elastic bands/pony tails

-1 rubber band

-Rolled sock

-Tangle Teezer

-Fine tooth comb

-Scissors

*Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer

*Shea Moisture Mist

It seems like alot but really its not and this style is very easy to create and you do not need any special type of skill to do so. You just need two hands :) I will begin with instructing on how to create a rolled sock for the sock bun portion of this style.

So many people have questions about how to do this without having to buy a pre-formed mold and its easy peasy.

*First you begin with a sock that you do not plan on wearing on your foot again. You have to have a pre planned idea of how big you want the rolled sock to be before you begin. For example if your daughter has long hair you would want a bigger formed rolled sock. If your daughter has shorter hair you would want to create a smaller in diameter rolled sock.  For thin or smaller rolled socks you can begin with dress socks or slacks and work your way up thickness wise depending on your preference, for lots of hair or long hair you could try beginning with cotton socks or thicker type winter socks. So since my daughter has somewhat longer hair i opted for a warm fuzzy sock that is THICK and typically worn in cold climates. These types of socks roll BIG. See below the type of sock i used.

 I have the sock pictured above AFTER its been cut to my desired length and its comparison alongside the sharpie is to illustrate the size of the sock after being cut. The sock was originally a women's sock which was for size 8-10.

*Secondly, i cut the toe off and about 2 inches beyond the toe leaving the mid sole of the sock left and the full length of the ankle/leg portion.

*Thirdly, i cut about 4 inches off of the leg portion of the sock leaving about 6 inches worth of sock give or take.

THEN the sock was ready to roll into a bun... See below the fashion that i chose to roll the sock into.

 I began rolling one side a few times into itself and then stopped in the middle and began rolling the opposite end of the sock in towards the center until the centers met...

 Then i simply folded the two sides together creating this doughnut!

I like doing it this way so that there are no loose ends or ankle parts or ends sticking out of the rolled sock. Some people like to begin rolling the sock from one side until it cant roll anymore and that is fine too just make sure that there is NO ankle part left on the sock nor frayed edges because the sock bun can completely bubble out or be defective if done sloppy or improperly. If you do either method on a new sock your chances of having issues are slim to none but older socks can propose challenges.

So here is how you put the rolled sock into the hair... Begin with a regular tight pony tail (not so tight that you stress the hair)...

 Then you slip the rolled sock onto the pony tail as if you were going to put another pony tail on to the hair...See below...

 As you can see how i have hair separated on top and bottom of the rolled sock above i began there and i spread the two sections out amongst the rolled sock so that her hair was evenly covering the sock mold. I then put an elastic band around the hair and mold and her hair then formed the sock bun appearance.

Then comes the fine tuning of the sock bun... I use a fine tooth comb for this part because i like to make sure the sock bun is somewhat perfect and tighter i smoothed the hair that is around the sock mold out nicely down into the underneath part of the sock mold so that you do not see any part of the sock showing through.  I then tucked the remaining curls under the bun with my fingers and it was just that quick and easy. I applied the second elastic band for extra security and fine tuning.  I will explain at the second part of this post about another method of maintaining the loose hairs around the sock bun.

THE REINDEER creation! Take a look at the picture first and then i will explain...

This set of pics are from the first run through of creating this style. I began with creating a simple regular pony tail and i applied some Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer to her WET hair prior too creating the pony tail.  As i was doing the pony tail i applied some more Luscious to her edges to help slick the hairs back and create a smoother look. I then created the sock bun as i mentioned above.

Now, the pieces that i pictured above that make up the Reindeer face are self explanatory pretty much. I freestyled the eyes by cutting 4 circles out of the card board and gluing one bobby pin between two card board circles per eye formation so that the bobby pin is "sandwiched" between for security. Then i drew the eyeballs on with the sharpie. For the red puff ball i just slid the bobby pin through the center of the ball, no glue needed.  If you need the antlers broken down i will gladly explain if you leave a comment below.

I just stuck all the pieces in place and no force was needed at all. (nor would i do anything that requires force.)

 Isn't the completed style cute as a button??? I'm telling you this was a huge hit everywhere we went! I could not believe the raves we got from this. People of all ages from children to great grandparents everyone LOVES this cute and festive style! It stayed in place all day too not a need in the world for touch ups.

 Now here is part 2... I had to do this style again because the reviews were out of sight and my sweet Diva requested it again.  This time around i did the same exact thing as above besides the method that i chose to tuck in the surrounding hair around the sock bun.  I didn't think i could twist the remaining hair around the bun forming rows of rolled twists but i was able to pull it off!

 If you look at the set of pictures below you will see the rolled twists around the sock bun instead of the hair being tucked completely under the bun. This in my opinion gives it a more 3D look. I was shocked that this worked! Its not that easy to do this on curly hair as it is straighter hair types. With the help of a few more bobby pins i was able to pull this off to a T and it turned out super cute. 

 I made the antlers a little taller as well as thicker at the bottom so they would stay in place firmly through dress up times and rough play at school.

 My sweetheart loves her hair and asks me all the time how i am going to style her hair along with requests from her and new ideas! I am addicted to taking proper care and styling my sweet daughters hair <3

All in all this style took about 20 minutes... More proof that hairstyles can be done on all hair types no matter the type.
