Braid Out From Pretty Brown Girl Event Style

I have done a recent braid out style which is from the style i created for the Pretty Brown Girl Showcase we attended... Below is the style before braid out on the left and on the right is 1 day after the take down of her cornrows.

Here is what her braid out looked like as it was FRESH just seconds after i took her cornrows down.

I am very pleased with this braid out, there was so much crimpage to it and it looked great! Her hair still had so much moisture retained as well and it was really full as well. These following pictures are one full day old which was slept on even and it lasted very nicely...

Braid outs are awesome :) We LOVE them and its also a mystery as to how each braid out will turn out <3

Back To School Hair Style Day 6

So I had left the braid style in her hair through the weekend and for school on Monday i decided to braid some of the braids together into pig tails for a new change up. So i took a picture before hand to show the condition they were in days into the style. The overall condition was wonderful there still were no frizzies though i did have to replace some rubber bands periodically because i ran out of ortho bands.

I did smooth out the edges with more Luscious because her curls were trying to pop out and did pretty much pop out but this couldn't be prevented because of her lengths being different still from previous bad hair cuts. I do think that if this hair was coarser her hair would have been easier to mold into.

There is nothing special to this style and since her hair is in the extensions i sure didn't want to get it wet as it isn't good to get all extension hair wet.

I just simply unraveled the braids to a certain mid point and then grabbed random sections as i went and created two pig tails adorned with a few of our cute new Halloween Hair Bows.

The unraveling created a nice braid out and it turned out to be super cute when blended and the varying texture along with colors really made for a nice color explosion. This Diva R really loved! She flipped time ad time again over this style and each time i changed it she loved it even more, she was begging me to leave the colors in she didn't EVER want me to take them out. So the pig tail style lasted for a few days and the braids didn't unravel any further. This was also a hit at school everyone kept wanting to touch her hair which even though it may have been tempting Diva R was sure to stop them in their tracks <3

This was a 15 minute change and since i was in a hurry i sure wasn't pressed for something extravagant nor did i want to take Diva R's cherished colors out. So this was our go to and it was on to the next thought for when it was time to take them down.

Braid Out On Mommy

Here is a recent Mommy Braid Out... Not much to this style at all.

This time around i washed and conditioned my hair with my Vo5 shampoo and Bee Mine Deep Conditioner, rinsed and just grabbed random sections and finger parted my desired size sections which were small/medium sized. I applied my Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter from beginning of each section through the ends and then braided each section. I left these in over night and took them down the following morning.

I spritzed my hair lightly following the take down of the braids with our trusty Bee Mine Juicy Daily Spritz. I made sure i finely finger separated each section as my hair is prone to staying parted in random areas when i do these braid outs.

I usually throw my hair in a side or messy pony tail and the crimp adds a nice textured look and it is quite versatile too!

Love Your Girls Biracial Curls: Free Style Cornrows with Beads and Following Braid Out

Cant go wrong with cornrows! No matter the occasion, no matter the season, cornrows are ALWAYS a go-to style. Once you learn how to do them its smooth sailing from there. I am still "new" into doing cornrows myself BUT i find that there is never too many bits of information and advice to receive and learn from. I find that experimenting and letting your fingers take course when braiding is a great starting point for improving.

I had taken down the previous style and let her hair "breathe" for a few days and the i decided to bring out the freestyle cornrows. I had an idea in mind for how i wanted it to turn out ahead of time so with my rat tail comb, distilled water spritz bottle, Bee Mine Juicy Spritz, Shea Butter Curl Moisturizing Cream, Darcy's Botanical's Madagascar Vanilla Styling Cream, our beaders, orthodontic bands and beads gathered i began "blue printing" or parting out my ideal sections.

I begun by spritzing our distilled followed by our Juicy as our initial layers of moisture, since i plan on leaving this style in for a little while its important to have moisture within. I generously applied the DB Shea Butter Moisturizing Cream from her roots to tips then I started on the right side first and just parted as i went trying to be somewhat neat but not perfect.

As i would begin cornrowing i would scoop a finger smudge amount of the Madagascar Styling Cream and braid until i reached the end of her hair and then i would add the beads and secure with our bands.

The Diva tolerated it mostly being done and then it was bed time for her as we had a fun filled busy day from the second we woke up :) So i Bantu knotted the top corner section and sent her off to bed with her faithful satin bonnet.

The next morning i finished and topped it off with our Juicy and i plan on the style lasting for a week this time. We will see of course :) From beginning to end the style took almost an hour and a half Diva R loves beads and she was excited to be able to wear her bow beads that we got from Curly Princess Hair Boutique.

Here is the top view

So it has been a while since we have done a braid out so it was time to bring one back on out :) I had these cornrows in for a week solid and decided to take them out. I do this very carefully, with Diva R's tender head it is crucial for me to be light handed and because of this it takes a little longer to take braids out. This is dually beneficial though, because with my technique of un-doing the braids a MAJOR crimp and definition is kept.. I used to make mistakes of spraying her hair with water and or moisturizer heavily as i was un-braiding. This would make any hopes for a nice braid out an epic-fail. The last thing you want to do is saturate the hair when desiring to achieve a braid out. So without further a due Diva R's lovely braid out is as follows <3

This is pre light moisturizing. As you can see her hair is FLUFFY and full of nice crimpage. This is what one would call a successful braid out, i am very proud of how it turned out and so is Diva R! She loves her fluffy hair :)

I decided to spritz VERY LIGHTLY our Bee Mine Juicy Spritz and "pat" it into her hair so that her fluff remains and a nice layer of moisturizer is able to seep in and give her hair a nice little drink until it is time for heavy moisturizing the following day. :)

Braid outs never last beyond a day in our household unless they are done in my hair! Her fine-ness in texture makes her hair receptive to styles lasting no longer than a few days max.

But is LOVELY while it lasts and texture is always a plus!!

Combinaton 4-1 Style with Natural Curls, Braids, Sidewinder's, Ponytails, Braid-out, and Cornrows

Quick, Easy and Lovely! Natural hair is incredibly versatile in styling and combination styles can be easily created and easily altered each day creating a different and still equally as cute if not cuter style. I am one for showcasing Diva R's natural curls consistently. She loves wearing her hair down just as much as she does styled. I think my teachings and embracings have paid off already at her tender age of 4!

So my idea was to create a style which kept the top front portion of her hair free from hanging in her face, this is the area where she sweats heavily from and since its SO HUMID here i (for complaints from the Diva's sake) thought of re-creating an oldie but goodie of ours...

I began with the thought being "Hey" its been a while since i have used the Sidewinder's so i had to bring em back out! As these are just amazing and so much easier applying to the hair than beads. I used some of our 2 inch Sidewinder's in my choice of coordinating colors.

Part 1

Before i begin parting i spritzed Diva R's hair moderately with our trusty distilled water in our lovely pink bottle from scalp to tip. I lift her hair up as i spritz to guarantee an adequate coverage throughout. I then misted her hair with our Bee Mine Juicy Spritz acting as our light moisturizer and finger detangled the few knots that she did have while also smoothing the moisturizer into the already in place distilled water for our wonderful moisturizing method.

I chose our Darcy's Botanical's Madagascar Vanilla Styling Cream as our styling/hold product. I applied this to her ends generously and then began parting. Its really a no brainer as to how i did this style BUT i will explain in case someone would desire i do so.

I grabbed my trusty rat tail comb and parted ear to ear (just behind her ears) across the top of her head. Then i just split the top section of her hair in three sections, pony-tailed and singled braided each.

I ended each braid into one of the hair holders and a small pony bead. I opted out of the rubber bands for a little while to see how we like these orthodontic bands in place of them, and secured the bead on so the SW doesn't slide off (helped to provide a light ending weight on the hair holders).

I <3 our Sidewinders, I'd say my favorite size is the 2 inch because of Diva R's thinner type hair i like to usually put a smaller amount of beads on her hair per strand to prevent extra weight hanging off of her hair.

These are still better than beads currently for us and we have used them quite often since i bought her very first set ages ago :)!

This style took all of 20 min tops from start to finish. I topped it off with our Juicy Spritz and we were off.

Now for Part 2

Final Yarn Braid Switch Up Plus Braid Out and Style

Here is the last switch up style with the yarn braids that we did. Just a simple accessory change can make a big difference and this is the easy mode of switching a style possible :)

Like our cutesy butterfly clips :) They are a new addition to our collection. I got them locally. They are as summery as ever and just the perfect size for bigger size braids. The pictures above were taken at the 6 days of being in mark. Still looking pretty good but they were starting to get loose.

OK OK So as you know after Yarn Braids we ALWAYS do Braid Outs :) Braid Outs do not last but a day for us, so we enjoy them while they last. Before i began taking down the braids i spritzed her hair with a little distilled water, then i began cutting the double tied ends CAREFULLY!

Here is what it looked like as i was taking them out.

Kinda funky and rag doll looking :) But as you can see the crimp is just gorgeous! I had spritzed the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz on her hair lightly as i was un-braiding. It is important to un-braid very lightly especially with yarn because it can be damaging if your rough.

It took about 25 min to take her hair down, the longest part is always cutting the tied ends because of the precision it takes.

I am also very careful when i do the braid out part of the style because if you un-braid quick and sloppily the braid out will come out poorly and you will have some twisted up half defined/half crazy looking and no definition of the resulting braid out. In other words it ill look like you just brushed your dry hair with the tangle teezer! EEK

So any who here is the resulting Braid Out from these yarn braids that Diva R kept in for 6 solid days!

(Diva R is SO SERIOUS into her programs LOL)

Here is the back view of the BO..

I will say that this turned out cute for sure, the picture doesn't do it justice! If the braids would have been smaller we would have achieved more of a kinky perfect crimp which we LOVE too :) That's why i like doing Braid Outs because the versatile-ness comes out every time because there are no two BO's alike!

Here is what we did on yesterdays super hot day for a cousins birthday party Diva R went to :)

Quick and cute loose side pony tail, as you can see the Braid Out wasn't surviving the heat to well :0 Still was cute and wavy on the top!

Today's Curlee Style: Simple Play Hair and Following Braid Out...

Today's Curlee Style is from a few days ago... The inspiration for this one was simplicity and playtime! So since we had decided on a play date at the last minute at our local Fav play place i HAD to do something to her "all-over-the-place" hair. It was dry and in its puffy natural state so with not much thinking at all i just grabbed the spray bottle of distilled water, Bee Mine Juicy Spritz and Curly Butter along with our rat tail comb. I first dampened her hair with the distilled water and finger detangled, then i spritzed the JS and sectioned her hair into 4 angled cornrows beginning with splitting her hair down the middle and then splitting each section in twos. I applied the Curly Butter and began cornrowing. Here is the result :)

The object here was to have a non-busy, quick and cute styles that she could ruff house in and not destroy, rip or damage her hair in the process of playing. Kids like to touch her hair as it is so places like these that we go to to play with other kids i sure keep her hair as simple as possible. She readily tells people not to touch her hair but these kids who normally don't listen to anyone not even their own parents just ignore her... SMH and so then i have to step in and reinforce :)
I loved how this cute style turned out :) It took 30 minutes from start to finish and this is the 4th or 5th time i have done this and each time it seems to get better YAY for practice. After the style was complete i lightly applied some JS and added some of her new cute butterfly ballies to match her springy outfit and we were ready to PLAY!

This style i left in for two days and then had to unleash another braid out :) I feel like this... WHY let a perfectly gorgeous braid out be ruined by immediately washing her hair after a braid style? NEVER that. SO here is her braid out from these cornrows.

I used the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz as my refresher and look how gorgeous her hair has become since we began blogging in January!!! That is INCHES of growth!

I am surprised and very pleased with how this BO turned out because i did the cornrows to the back and usually this creates parted gaps that i cant finger separate well with out it bumping out...

Also our BIG girl has started playing Soccer!! She was so proud of her practice outfit that she insisted she show it off :)

(Here is an example of a failed twist out on Diva R's dry natural curlees... Where i have the arrows pointed is where the "bad-parting/direction" which created those sections/parts that wont lay flat or mesh in with the other ones in the twist out, so i tried to spray water into her hair and tousle it with my fingers but they were just stubborn and i ended up putting the twist out in a pony tail and it was cute at that point the blemishes were hidden. (no pics :( )

Happy Hair Styling :)

Today's Curlee Style: Braid Out from Bday Yarn Rows...

So of course i had to do a braid out after those awesome Bday Yarn Row extensions and it turned out so lovely that i had to share! Now before i get to that, the extensions were put in on April 22nd and were taken out April 26th. I could have left these in for much longer due to them looking wonderful and minimal frizzies. I was just dieing to see the expected gorgeous braid out and i don't like to leave yarn in for long periods of time because i like to wash her hair twice-three times a week and it happens to be a peeve of mine.

As you can see her perfect crimp throughout her hair is evenly distributed!!! I have learned over countless braid outs that the BEST way to achieve a major crimpage to your braid outs is to braid cornrows off to the sides of the head, NO STRAIGHT BACKS. Doing straight backs will leave weird gaps between your crimps and make it look more messy than crimpy. Imagine a full rainbow, that is how the cornrows should be braided on the head either from left to right or right to left as you were braiding tracks in the hair for extensions so to speak is another way of describing the pattern.

The middle pic in the collage is the aftermath of taking the yarn out :) I didn't have to use much yarn and it took all of 30 min to take i down and moisturize it. My way of taking yarn braids down efficiently is spritzing the Juicy Spritz on her hair before i take them down and then using it again right after i take them out and shes good to go, as i go i finger detangle her rows:)

Through out this no-wash period i used solely the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz as her daily and nightly refresher and this product is the BEST ever and functions incredibly as a next day refresher and can be applied on top of previous applications over and over and it never builds up her hair and scalp drink this quenching potion! This is the perfect spritz to use over yarn also It has never saturated the yarn leaving her hair to saturate the juicy :)

Way Back Wednesday Style Reflection

Since we were just on the subject of yarn extensions i thought id do a throw back yarn braids reflection! This was her first ever yarn braids doo and i decided to do medium-large sized box braids with a brown multi colored 100% acrylic yarn! I chose the Red Heart brand as this is what i found to be the best and has always been the most recommended type of yarn to add into hair and i was all for trying to learn extensions.

I used the Lets Jam Extra Hold Gel at this time and it worked well for us :) No special treatments or anything beyond hot oil treatments at this time... I secured the beads in a different type of way. I took the beads and put them on the beader as i normally would and then put them on the ends of each braid and then i took one strand of the yarn and wrapped it up the outside the bead and back down through the center of the bead and then u rubber band the ending strands of yarn including the one i looped back through the bead and they stay on and aren't even wrapped on the hair meaning that just the yarn is taking the rubber bands abuse and not her ends :) I thought this turned out great :) It was super easy and i can definitely do all types of extensions just from messing around with the yarn.

The style took about 2 hours from beginning to end...

It stayed in for a week which is usually longer than any styles will stay in regardless of anything. But these stayed great looking for probably even longer than a week if i would have kept them in :) I thought it would be note worthy to take a picture while i was taking them out...

The crimp is POPPING and this level of crimp was simply created by braiding as tight as i could as gentle as i could, and the yarn helps form a GREAT crimp that's why i am a fan of using yarn for braid outs because the crimp is so defined afterwards and it last so long :)

Here is the after math of taking out the yarn braids :) I did fluff her hair slightly with a "pick" and POOOF... <3

This was one of most major 'poofages' we have achieved :) It was super full and fluffy as a cloud :) The fluff-fro is everyone's all time favorite in both of our families and beyond it seems :) This Braid out lasted several days...

Diva R's BIRTHDAY Part 2 :)

Happy 4th Birthday Diva R! Mommy, Daddy and Z love you to pieces baby girl! Have a Blessed day in the Lords name and be ready to receive all the blessings ahead of you :)

I bet your wondering what a Diva would eat on her Birthday for breakfast.....
WELL by the choice of Diva R herself and let me tell you it took nothing but a second for this decision from beginning to end... She got to eat.................

AND she was living this moment up because this normally would NEVER fly in our household! What makes for a better breakfast of choice for kiddies than JUNK FOOD :) and I had made my son Z a bowl of cereal already and when he seen sister getting a cupcake he HAD to have one too :P Following breakfast was a day filled full of her choice in foods and activities!

I conventionally added it to his cereal so he would eat his cereal as well :) and he ate it all up!! and what a MESS i had after that :) But as the saying goes, cant do for one and not the other... *_*

Here is how Diva R's actual Birthday went and all of the included elements PRE-PARTY :)

We had just did an overnight set of braids the night before and before i took them out i spritzed her braids lightly with our Juicy Spritz and let it soak in slightly... Here are the results!

This one turned out rather gorgeous!!! and off to the Dr's we go... ( bad day for a Dr appt i know, but we had no choice :/) Mommy promised NO POKES though :) Needless to say her day turned our spectacular because Childrens Hospital knew it was her Birthday so they had given her a brand new board game, a bag full of American Doll stuff, a BIG box of new Crayola Chalk and oodles of easter goodies also :) Yay for Childrens they sure made my baby girls day turn right around :) KUDOS!

After that we got her FAV MCD'S, i painted her nails, we played games, we went to the BEST local play place ever and played until we couldnt no more and then fell asleep LATE!!!

Diva R's Pre Birthday PART 1 :) PIC LOADED

Diva R's Pre-Birthday celebration began at school and for her 1st ever Birthday during school we decided to get some custom made cupcakes from a local bakery for her to take in and share with her friends :) Her chosen Birthday theme was Toodee from Yo Gabba Gabba this year. I went all over the world and back trying to find a bakery that would make JUST Toodee cupcakes or ones with the individual characters on each one of them BUT for copyright reasons and my not knowing someone personally who could make these for us we went with the next best design idea and chose a group shot of the characters waving :)

These were ENORMOUS and had the sugary icing! I'm sure her classmates parents loved me after this treat :) It was a huge hit! No other kids in her class have brought in something original, and me being over the top as usual had to do one better than the rest and I'm glad we went this route because the kids are still raving about them! Diva R was so excited to share these with her friends and they were just YUMMY she said :) The kids loved how the characters were actually on them and weren't substituted with the cheap plastic junk on the cupcakes that parents usually go for at the deli already made...

Hi-5 to me :)

So for her school party Birthday doo AND professional pictures following i decided to just re-invent the previous style that i had done on the 12th click here to reflect on it :) The alterations i made were simple and took all of 5 minutes.

Diva got a gift bag from her teachers with ALL KINDS of goodies in it for her :)

(This pic was taken after she got home from school)

I re-did the front two cornrows making them neater and fresh again, using the Bee Mine Curly Butter as i braided. I Then merged the two pigtails on the top center of her head into one pony and re-finger curled her curlees back into her lovely ringlets. I refreshed and left the back single pony in on the lower back of her head re-fingercurling those curlees also. Here is one of Diva R's Birthday Pics so you can get a partial idea of how her hair was styled and a preview of her Birthday outfit!!

(I put an image over her name for our safety, as an FYI in case anyone was thinking that was a part of her outfit)

Since we planned on Diva being in two outfits for her pictures i chose wisely the accessories that i will be changing VERY quickly in between shoots... This is also why i chose to do such a simple style.

The very night before her actual Birth date i decided that a Braid Out would be our Bday style :) I washed and conditioned her hair as normal and used a little bit of the Lavish Curls Moisturizer followed by our Bee Mine Juicy Spritz and finger detangled her hair. Not forgetting to use the Curly Butter as i braid :) I then started sectioning away (not striving for perfect linage) and braided the individual sectioned braids tightly and rubber banded them off.

Off to bed she went :)

For a few weeks now i have been experimenting with JUST using her satin pillow case nightly as her hair protection through the night versus our normal sleep bonnet and satin pillow case dually in hopes of noting any differences and/or providing helpful information to those curious or skeptical.

Last year my husband and i wanted to try something new to add to her Birthday morning and we decided to add Bunches of balloons in her room for her to awake to them...

BUT probably because this was a first attempt and because i didn't think to READ the package like i should have the balloon's were MINI balloons! LOL We were aiming for big ones BUT it turned out being a success anyways! Diva was just THRILLED!

This is a glimpse of Diva R at this time last year on her special day :)

As for this year i decided to actually READ the balloon packages LOL and opted out of the smaller sized ones and grabbed some bigger sized latex balloons in princess colors :) and with help from the Hubby we blew up over a hundred of them and....

(This is all of them in front of her door and in the bathroom BEFORE we released them into her room)
This had to be done VERY quietly and sneakily so our surprise wasn't ruined before the morning. STILL praying that she didn't have to wake up to potty before the morning also...*_*

We got them in!!!!

AND made it through the whole night without our surprise being foiled!!! The next morning i woke up super early beyond excited with my video camera in hand and started singing happy birthday as i walked in until she woke up (mind you she HATES the birthday song for some odd reason LOL always has) and she was so happy yet shy and telling me to STOP singing that song at the same time that she didn't notice the balloons due to her hiding under the pillow until i stopped singing LOL (All the while her brother was dancing to my singing and he noticed the balloon's right away! He was in paradise and jumped off into them :))

Diva R noticed them and WENT BONKERS! "Mommy why are there balloons in my room?" IS IT MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" YAY TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY" and she started singing the Spanish happy birthday song to herself! HA like the Diva she is and we all just jumped in and started a whirl wind of balloons in every direction :) This was beyond the last years balloon morning and next year we will add a few hundred more!!!
For my son Z we will be starting off with 200 balloons for his Bday coming up in Aug :)

So what would a Diva have for breakfast for her 4th Birthday morning???
